Saturday I had a ride to Vashon on the calendar. The Thursday before, SNOWPOCALYPSE descended upon the PNW and the ride was cancelled. I had just received a few bike related trades in the mail that week and was eager to take them out. The jewel of the trades was an Acorn Boxy Rando bag which fit perfectly on my M-12 I had installed a few weeks previous.
By 12:00 the sun had come out and most of the snow was gone. I was moping about in my robe and PJs (if you have never seen a 6'6" guy in full length PJs...) wearily getting some work done when my wife came in and forced me to get out while my son was still sleeping. A few minutes later I was enjoying myself on the Burke avoiding pedestrians and snow patches. It was amazing.
I forgot my gloves and I don't own winter gloves anyway so I decided to stop at Recycled Cycles to see if I could find a cheap pair. A crow cawed as I dismounted my bike. I leaned it against the bike rack and opened my new bag to retrieve my mini u-lock. I felt so wonderful and smug showing off the new bag. Front bags are so civilized and what-not. But then something wet and squishy landed my hand, on my bag, and right in the front pocket. Was it snow? Dirt?
The crow was right above me. It had pooped in my brand new bag the very first time I had opened it in public.
I went in and asked for a paper towel and had it cleaned up pretty quickly. The buzz from riding for the first time in a week or more couldn't be faded. Besides: in Italy birds pooping on your head is considered good luck right?
I attached a pic from the ride.
