I modified some gripking/lamda pedals and youtubed it:

Then BikeTinker blogged it:

and today somebody connected the dots and asked me on my etsy store whether I would do the mod for him for a fee.  Imagine that

That looks looks a really good stab at an issue I am contantly at odds
with too. The GK pedals lasted me all of one 30 min ride before
moving to my wife's bike. She on the other hand, as a mid foot over
spindle pedaler thinks they are the business as is. My solution to
the problem was/is to hoarde a favorite vintage pedal that is no loger
made. Plan b was being hatched in the garage earlier today as I was
filing the upward points off of a pair of MKS sylvans. The points
poke me in the ring toe bone when wearing thin shoes. I am guessing
this is primarily a problem for guys with size 10 and up.

Good luck making a little $$$ with it - fun stuff

On MKS Sylvans and all the others that look the same, I always would just grab the point with a crescent wrench and bend it down flat.

I just love your creativity! Hope you make a lot of money doing this improvement, or perhaps just making a bunch of the extra parts and RBW offers them on their site for those who want to address the same problem on those pedals.

I didn't like the GKs when I tried them and preferred the sneaker pedal over the GK. However, I developed some right hip problems that I attributed riding free and went back to riding clipless pedals as I had no issues before switching. The hips are fine now and I love riding clipless but on most of my bikes now have the A530 pedals just in case I want to hop on the bike for a short ride and don't want to change shoes/sandals.

That's excellent. I think it's a great mod - I'm glad someone could
follow the crumbs back in order to contact you for one.

I was down in Southern California for a family wedding and consulted with my Pop on the Grip King Supreme cages.  We agreed on a few key modifications for V2.0 and bounced around ideas for some optimized tooling to be able to make several sets of these in a batch.  My etsy inquiry liked the sound of my mods and my estimated price ($25 a pair), and said he'll buy them when I make them.  The first key modification will be that the V2.0 cages will wrap around near the spindle to do the same thing for your instep that the V1.0 cages did for the outside of your foot.  You can hear your soft soled shoes rubbing on the spindle of Grip Kings.  These cages will prevent that, and it'll look more like a "C" than a "U".  The second thing is I'll mill down the front and back plate, so these cages don't stop your harder soled shoes from engaging with the peg-nubs.  I'll promote them when I have a bunch of them to try to sell.
