Is anyone on the list running drops on their Apps?  I recently built up my new frame with Boscos, then Choco's and now thinking that my comfort zone is still drops.  It's a long top tube but with the right stem, I imagine a comfy set-up could be had.  I'm hoping those Nitto stems from Crust will be released soon in a 3-5cm extension with a 31.8 clamp size and a removable faceplate.  Has anyone set up their Appaloosa in a similar way?

I’m running mine with Crust Towel Rack bars right now—it’s very comfy, but I should probably be on a 64cm Appaloosa (if they existed) so the long TT is less of an issue. I’ll post a photo later on if I get a chance. I found drops made it feel a good bit “faster”.

that's part of the reason why I want to revert to drops.  I love being upright but the reality is I'm dragging and I'm already a relatively slow rider.  I just feel like I have better leverage with drops even with a short stem.  Would love to see your bike.

I am indeed. I started with a 55, but went up to a 58 because I wanted a LONGER top tube.

I've got a 58 with 46 noodles on a 7cm stem (I think...)

I built my 55 cm App with the Dirt Drop 8cm stem and Nitto B-115 handlebars. Works great for me.  -  K

Thanks everyone , keep 'em coming
These are looking like very comfortable touring bikes to pile on the miles.

I have also tried most other types of handlebars that Riv sells and keep coming back to drops. I have Nitto Noodles on a 7cm Nitto stem on my 62cm Appaloosa and it feels great.

Here's my 62 with the "small" Crust Towel Rack bar. I really like it so far, though the back sweep of the ramps may necessitate a slightly longer stem in the long run.

Picking this thread back up
after giving the new Appaloosa a few rides with both 52cm Boscos' then Choco-norms...I picked up one of those Analog/Spank gravel bars.
I had a 30mm Analog stem that I purchased off this list.  I took a few weeks slowly setting up this cockpit because I couldn't quite get things right (Bar ends on these bars were hitting my knees) until I remembered that I had a stem-mount shifter mount in the box and once that went on, everything sort of clicked.   The very short stem extension allows easy thumb shifting while riding on the flats.
These bars are 31.8mm all the way along the flats which I was really unsure about , but they feel great..like comfy reassuring baseball bat placed on top of a drop bar.  The Analog stem get 'em up high (maybe too high in these photos) ...but riding in the drops is basically like holding the grips on the Choco-norms.

Who says a rolling couch can't have drop bars?

agree with reid that a joe 64 would be perfect; but the 62's fine enough. I always come back to drops too, except for the jones loop bar that works well on my clem l 64

i was seeing how many sackville bags I could get on the joe...have gone to front basket since.

That's an amazing looking bike jandrews! What's the fender/tire combo? Enough clearance?

Looks awesome!  New stems are in the works.  Faceplate braze ons are about to go to a CNC machinist.  High drop bars are the jam!

Thanks
The Fenders are Berthoud 700x60mm stainless I've been holding on to for about 6 years with no bike that would fit them.
They had some shopwear so I got them powder coated locally.
the tires are currently some NOS Vittoria Mezcal 29x2.1.  They are the lighter and suppler version when they came out.  non Tubeless on Synergy rims.
There's plenty of clearance.  It's a little tight at the chain stays but nothing to worry about.
The only issue is the fenders don't have a lot of rounded overhang so they (the fenders) are touch too narrow
