Ideas for where to find a wool shirt that is:

- light weight (worsted, perhaps)
- long sleeve
- red plaid

The idea being that cotton red plaid fades after a minutes and a half in the sun, but wool does not fade.

Hi Deacon,
Here in the Philippines where the weather is normally hot and humid, I have found "MEN EXTRA FINE MERINO V-NECK LONG-SLEEVE SWEATER" from Uniqlo
perfect for our weather.  I just visit a tailor and have the long sleeves cut for Php 100 (2 USD) to convert it to a regular T-shirt.
It has become my daily shirt at home or even going out specially when I commute to work.
I just change clothes upon arriving at the office and wear it again when I go home (which is dry already) without the stink.
Regards,
Edgar

Thanks Ed! I've worn t-shirts like that and they worked great, but weren't hearty enough for what I put them through.

Aye, Kent. Though red doesn't seem to be a color for them this year. Johnson Woolen Mill is the most promising so far, but on the heavier side for ideal. I plan on calling Pendleton to see if they have any old stock from the lumberjack days when red was Ok and they slept all night and worked all day! Grin.

With abandon,
Patrick

Thanks, Eric. Great looking shirts! Here's the challenge: not look like the road. Red does that. The fashion of late is roadesque. This shirt is a cotton wool blend, https://www.fjallraven.com/fjallraven-mens-singi-flannel-shirt-ls-m-dark-sand-f82445/?sku=7323450510268, only offers road colors.

Most of mt wool shirts are from woolandprince.com.  They have some plaids with red in them.

Try doing a search for red buffalo plaid Patrick.

I’ve been sold on Pendleton’s for decades. They are my go to for about six months of the year.

If you shop for vintage, size up at least a size compared to their current fit.

You may have a Pendleton store near you where you can try on a few styles.

The board shirts are more boxy cut than some of their other shirts.

I’m a fan of the shadow plaids myself.

Cheers
Ray

A relatively lighter weight fabric is not necessarily inherently any cooler than a relatively heavier weight one is any warmer.

Dear Patrick,

Pendleton woolen Mills makes a line of "sir Pendleton" worsted wool for the office dweller. They are well-constructed sport shirts with button-down collars etc. Depending on the year, they are available in red plaid. I have a few. They are a touch heavy for midsummer, as I need to wear them with an undershirt to limit laundering them, but are excellent. I get about ten years out of one before I blow out the elbows or start seeing fraying at the cuffs. They are worth patching in my opinion.

Best Regards,

Will

Aye, Will. It seems my quest has to wait for the shades of fashion to turn back round from the current red is gauche.

With abandon,
Patrick
