Hi all - I acquired my first Riv (ramb) few months ago and have been really enjoying it.

May be interested in dabbling in the larger tire Riv realm ie. Atlantis or Appaloosa. Curious to see what’s out there…

Located in the east Bay Area, CA.
Thanks and happy holidays!
Jeff

Bump! Considering off hauling my 80's Stumpjumper and replacing with a Riv "equivalent".

I know you said "larger tire Riv", but does that also apply to wheel size? An older Toyo-built Atlantis in a 56cm size that takes 26" wheels would definitely be "equivalent" upgrade if you're coming from an 80's Stumpjumper. When I put fat tires on my 26" Atlantis, it looks like a fancy little old-school mountain bike, and I love it!

What's up Brian. I guess just meant larger tire width and not specific to different tire diameters. I was considering a 26" Atlantis. I have a nicer set of Velocity Cliffhangers on this Stumpie that'd transfer over nicely. Do you also have a Toyo Atlantis in 26" wheel size?

Yes, I have a 54.5cm Toyo Atlantis with 26" wheels. While it's just a hair smaller than the 56cm version (which was the largest frame size Atlantis of that era that took 26" wheels), if I were you looking for a 56-58cm Atlantis, I would look for the 56cm. A 58cm of that era would be the 700 wheel size, and you'd be somewhat limited to how big your tires could be. Because there's so much clearance on the 26" models, I'm running big 2.3" Rene Herse Humptulips on mine and there's plenty of room.
