I don't get the "Rivendell Mary" reference.

throwing upt the bare Map bar for comparison
...I've tried other bars with that shape but haven't been pleased as they're usually too shallow in the return. I do like the return (or sweep) angles of Alba's, Choco's and the new Billie even though I find myself riding towards the front of those bars the majority of the time (it's really the super slow times and weird tight NYC traffic traversing where the upright full sweep does come in handy for me)....
One of the criticisms of Rivendell/Grant that I see frequently is that they're slow to respond to trends. Here, they've brought out a bar similar to a whole host of others in a nice finish made by a great manufacturer and they get criticized for that, too. Go figure.

As promised, here's a short review of the Wavie. I removed the 610 Ahearne+Map (A+M) -- which I love -- and installed the Wavie today. Then took'er out for a 13 mile spin.Pics of the A+M and the Wavie on the Atlantis here.I'll include 1 inline pic below of the 660 Wavie (top), 610 A+M, and 560 Albatross:
<Wavie_Ahearne+Map_Albatross56.jpg>
Looks:It's a nicely-proportioned bar. Along with the beefier Nano 2.1s, it gives the Atlantis even more of a roughneck look, which I like. This bar is as flat as a pancake, unlike the A+M, which has a 25mm rise. The original Atlantis is a great-looking bike IMHO, and ... the Wavie ... is the gravy ;)Comfort:Wavie is minutely better for me than the A+M because it's 50mm (1.96") wider. Riders with wider shoulders may notice and appreciate this ever so slight advantage when out on the grips. Angle is great, just like A+M; the Wavie has a slightly shallower back sweep angle, but I found this insignificant. Another really comfortable, more athletic position is placing hands at the bends, with thumbs curled under the bar. Today was kinda chilly, and this position would have been even more comfortable had I wrapped the bars (I only had thin cycling gloves, so the chill from the cold bar migrated straight to my hands quickly). When installing it I rotated the bar so the bar ends angled very slightly downward, arriving at what felt right by straddling the bike and rotating until it felt right. I didn't have to adjust anything on my ride.Function:Not significantly different from the A+M. Both bars offer more than adequate leverage when in or out of the saddle. The sweep back angle is natural, and you don't even think about it ... which is perfect. No wrist nor elbow pain. No significant difference in the amount of space available to mount bag straps, at least for the Acorn Handlebar bag I use, which is 28cm (11") wide and fits fine on both bars.Bottom line:If you already have a **610** A+M bar ($65) and like it, I would find it hard to recommend you spend $97 for a Wavie. I'd recommend that you apply that $$ towards another component. But if you have the narrower 575 A+M, and you feel you need a wider bar, I'd recommend the Wavie first because (a)you'll be supporting Riv, and (b)might as well get the extra 50mm it offers over the 660 A+M.Hope that helps,Tom

After hearing about the upcoming Wavie handlebars from Bill Lindsay in this post, I took his suggestion to ask Riv if they would send some photos ahead of the catalog arrival. Vince came through, and also mentioned that the bars are 66 cm wide with a 25.4 mm diameter at the clamp, and they should arrive at Rivendell next month in their Nitto shipment. So (with Vince's permission), here they are. They look great!

Tom, I usually don't like upright bars on Atlantises, but something about your bike just looks perfect to me. Good job, and thanks for the review.
