Last year I had a hand surgery which kept me of the bike for a couple of months, this year a fall on my right shoulder that after 10- weeks was still problematic. Finally got a cortisone injection and I have been out 3 times since, so maybe the rest of the summer/fall will be good to me. I am still just doing short rides to make sure I do not re-injure my shoulder and hoping the injections holds up.

Then yesterday I was driving to get my oil changed at the dealer. They had a $25 off coupon so good deal. I decided to delay my departure by about 10 minutes to make sure the air in my tires was correct, then left, got on the highway and drove almost all the way to the dealer when I noticed what appeared to be a Lashing strap on the ground to the side of my car. As I was looking at it, bam, something hit my windshield and pretty much shattered it, if I had been looking straight I probably wouldn't have veered and hit another car, as it was I just drove to the dealer in disbelief, glass shards on the dash and seats and the windshield in the center pushed in a good 6 inches or more.

Turns out about 6 or more cars were disable by this, I may been the first at they all had flat tires from what the trooper told me. It may have been a tire that hit my windshields as there were black rubber type marks on the hood of the car, the bumper is dented and will need to be replaced and the dashboard may been work depending on what they find. As my insurance company said an angle may been watching over me yesterday.

Joel, glad you are OK, if not a little shaken up

Thanks Steve, I didn't realize it until later that I was indeed shaken up, but now just happy that I did not see whatever it was coming.

Dang! Thank goodness it wasn’t any worse and that you’re ok! Was the dealership able to take care of your windshield?

I can empathize. I’m having a similar year of bad luck + health issues. Last Summer, I tore my hip labrum and had to cut way back on my bike riding and bike adventures (currently 7 months into my recovery from the surgery). Shortly after my injury, our family’s property in Florida was damaged by Helene. As my wife and I were driving from Ky to Fl to do repairs on the house, something flew up and shattered our sunroof while we were on the highway, about 4 hours from our destination! I’m glad it wasn’t our windshield, but still… it was very scary, and was just another thing to pile onto a string of bad things happening.

Brian, I can imagine that nightmare, glad you two are ok. On surgeries we could probably sit down for hours and compare stories. I missed 10 years of riding due to back surgery and recovery, sold all but one bike. When Covid hit my wife encouraged me to try to ride again, I had been spinning in the basement for years. Glad to ride again, a little or a lot.

Thanks for sharing.

Joel, you did have an angel riding with you. This could have been tragic.
Glad you're okay and on the bike again. Stay safe.

Best,
Rich in ATL
