Saturday night a small coterie of cyclists set out to get as far away from the city lights of Sacramento as we could in order to get a better view of the comet. We rode to Clarksburg, a small town on the Sacramento River, where a local restaurant/taproom stayed open long enough to give us some leftover food and pour a few beers.

We did see the comet (barely), but the best part of the evening was the quiet and scenic road through the delta to Clarksburg and back. We stopped on the way back for the obligatory Tower Bridge photo, which also highlights the vast amount of reflective gear on us and our bikes! The first black-and-white photo shows Tara Flanagan, an Alameda-based randonneuse, and her little dog, Finn, who accompanies her on many of these rides.

I pulled into home at 1 am after a very nice night out.

Riv content: I was riding a very Riv-ish Soma (upright bars, twine-wrapped and cork-gripped bars, etc.).

The comet returns in 6,800 years.

Eric,

That looked like a fun evening. Impressive reflectivity. Your group was a comet on earth:-)

Best,
Rich in ATL

You can always tell a randonneur by the acres of reflective materials!
