I've been riding singlespeed with 44cm Noodle Bars, but I'd like to try some flattish bars with a bit of rise.

I've been looking at the Bull and Wavie on the Riv Site, the SimWorks Fun3 and Getarounds, and some Velo Orange bendy bars. Have you tried these with the RoadUno, or with any Riv set-up singlespeed? What bars did you go with, and how has the ride been?

Cheers

Some folks I know have recommended the Nitto Jitensha Bar...

I've got Ahearne+MAP handlebars on my Roaduno and love 'em. They feel a lot better than the choco bars did on this bike—chocos were too chill and work better on my Platypus.

I reckon wavies would be nice on a Roaduno, they seem similar to the map bars.

Wavies, with bar extensions, on mine.

It’ll get the new Goldilocks bar, eventually, I’m sure.

I have VO Klunkers on mine, kind of like a wavie with extra rise.

Great pics Philip. That looks like just the kind of shape I had in mind. The Ahearne Map bars look good as well. I'm going to try some VO Curvy bars that I found on ebay. I'm sure Wavies or the in-the-works new bar would have nicer finishes and make, but the shape of the VO's should be about the same.

Thanks for the recommendations all

Two bars that I've been really liking and fit the Riv aesthetic perfectly are the Crumbworks KT bar and the B802, both Nitto heat treated aluminum.  The B802 has about 25 degrees of sweep while the Crumbworks is close to 40.  Both 25.4mm and 720mm wide, with room to cut down as well

P.W.,

Nice Magura (pre Wilderness Trail Bikes modified) grips! Nice bars also. You been holding onto those for something special like this? I have a set of WTB modified ones on my Rivendell Mountain. Got them when a shop closed in the early 90's, probably about 1993 or so along with some other stuff. Wish I would have looked at the Bruce Gordon they had there.

Thanks,

Reginald Alexis

The Jitensha with its very short sweepback and narrow width is much like a “tourist” bar that was popular decades ago on French and I think Italian city bikes. I recall finding one very much like the Jitensha at age 13 or so in a small bike shop in New Delhi, with short-extensions stem and hooked up to some weird Bowden cable brakes mean to attach to the lower parts of a rod brake system.

The new bar looked very cool on my scarlet AW-i-fied Hero but the braking was even worse than with the original rod brake levers.

The Ahearne MAP bar was the most comfortable of all the many non-drop bars I’ve tried over the last 20 years, though I cut 4” off each end and added Ergon grips — also cut down — with double tape between end of grips and beginning of (road) brakes clamped at about top dead center of the bends. I still have that setup tho’ I later switched to a Specialized Hover bar.

Alexis,

Good eye! ;) Some of my favorite grips ever. I also have a set of the WTB-modded ones, with the cut down flange, so they work better with shifters.

Those I’m saving for a Phoenix rebuild I’ve had in the works for a longtime now.

This version was being saved for a single speed build someday, the Uno being close enough!

I wish you’d looked at that Bruce, too! I’m lucky enough to have both a Rock n Road and Chinook. Sometimes even my own luck astounds me!
