This powerhouse is Pamela Murray. We’ve mentioned her before. I hold her in highest esteem because of what she gets done on her Betty Foy. She rides in all weather, carries all manner of unwieldy things, and wears her stuff OUT. Like, she’s on her 3rd dyno hub. She wore out her front derailleur. You get the picture.

Anyway, she posted a pic of her carrying a child’s bike on her Nitto rack. Sure, it required 4 straps and an iron will, but she has all those things. She said she is getting her use out of her Riv and her Nitto rack. Marveling, I told her I think she has the most use of any Riv in the history of Riv, and she shrugged it off, sure that others have as many miles.

Her Betty Foy mileage (oh she keeps track!) is an astounding 51,845 miles.

I told her I had to start a thread and find out if anyone can beat that. So: has anyone got a Rivendell with more miles than Pam?

Even if you can’t beat her, if you have a Riv with an impressive log of miles, share it here! Photos that show the character of your well-traveled machines are welcome!

Just for fun, here's some links to some folder w/more pictures of stuff I've carried home on my bike.  Most of this stuff is rescued from the curb (landfill).  Some are groceries from the store and the drying rack was a gift from a friend.  Carry your straps all the time.  You never know what you'll find.

This is some good inspiration for riding. Toting that table around is impressive. I'd like to put that many miles on a bike, I just need to stop building new ones every couple of years. Easier said than done. I thought the Atlantis might be the one (probably has around 8,000) but my new Susie is getting all the miles now. All that aside, I love seeing people ride the heck out of their bikes.

My local hero is Irv Hoffman with his orange Joe Appaloosa.  I see him occasionally on the Silver Comet Trail.
He's got to be getting close to 50,000 miles.

Wow, 50,000 on an Appaloosa! That’s impressive - the Appaloosas haven’t been out for THAT many years, which means he must put on a lot of miles per year.

I love this story. Who else?

Leah,

Irv rode a Romulus (sold it to a list member) prior to the Joe App. The Joe was acquired last year. Irv's story is a good one. He's a nice guy too!

Best,

The picknic table load is certainly impressive!

Awesome job Pam! What a beautiful bike as well!

Don't want to engage in a bragging contest. But as an example this qb a few more...
I know personally of a some others who have beaten those miles by a few multiples.

I'll play.  I got my Atlantis in 2003, so it's had a lot of years to accumulate mileage.  Touring piles on the miles & I lost track a few years back at 70,000.  Judging by the parts I've worn out it seems reasonable.  Here's pix from a few adventures in the Pacific Northwest, upper Midwest, & a shot from Montenegro.

I've never carried any loads like Pam has.  Hats off to her for creativity in bicycle usefulness.

I’m glad we’ve got some company for our Pam. I love hearing that you all have so many miles on your Rivs. Rivendells only get dearer over years of use. I’m so glad you guys posted!

I didn't know "who" to attach my reply to, since there are so many awesome (I just read an article that that is an overused word) riders here.  I admire Pam for her use of Betty Foy for day to day activities instead of driving, and probably a lot of "just fun miles."  The miles just add up.  I know that Patrick is in that group.

For some of the others, as one of my friends would say "UNBELIEVABLE" (but in a believable way) for the amount of miles.  Quite impressive.

For everyone, the joy every ride bike brings outshines the actual number of logged miles.  I do about 1000 miles per year, planning on upping that this year, but I don't really keep track other than approximations.  I smile every mile.

Pam those are some great pictures. Thanks for sharing. A great case for straps and for not leaving the good stuff behind. Also proves a good point: by the time you go back for your truck someone else beat you to it!

Definitely some serious inspiration and a really good new IG follow for me.  I have historically been terrible about bike turnover - I'm always inspired by (and jealous of) those who've kept a bike for decades, like many here.  I have been selling my bike for a new model way too often, and as a result have never accumulated any significant mileage on one bike.

That said I am hoping to change all that with my Hillborne and Bombadil. They're still young in their time with me (18 months and 5 months, respectively) but I'm already at 3400 km and 1450 km respectively, so I hope to be well into the five-digits with both in a few years!  Tales like this really help me get there.

Irv Hoffman makes me feel like a wimp and I'm much closer to 50 than he is to 70. But that give me hope too.
