Hello!

It looks like I should be getting a new 53cm Atlantis and want to do a parts swap from my Hillborne. It's in great shape, with only a few small paint nicks and one chip on the back side of the fork bridge. No chain slap or dents, rust or damage.

I purchased it from Golden Saddle in June of 2021 and have been riding it locally since. Only selling to help fund the Atlantis frame.

I'm also potentially interested in selling the 700c wheels because the Atlantis is 650b. They're White Industries with H+ Son anodized grey TB14's built with double butted spokes.

Let me know if you have any questions. It's still together if you're local and wanna try it out.

$1,500 frame & forkpicked up in Los Angeles
or
$1,625 w/ King headset picked up in Los Angeles

I'm happy to ship if you're into paying for it.

(In the fall a new Hillborne is approx $1,900 when you factor in tax and shipping!)

Thanks,

Dave

All!

I'd love some feedback on my frame/fork pricing. I've had minimal offers, which is slightly surprising.

Do you think the price I'm asking is crazy? I feel like Riv's keep their value pretty well.

Thanks,

Dave

I think it's just a soft market right now. You may have better luck in a month when tax refunds are in.

You're asking for too much. There's 2 or 3 Rivendell bikes located in your area that are selling for $1500-2000 (theres a $1500 clem, $2000 hillborne, $1400 quickbeam on ebay) as completes. I see a few framesets on pinkbike, rad bazaar etc etc going for $900 and those are new. You have a used bike in a very soft market. You're basically charging full retail for a used frameset that won't come with a headset or bottom bracket, literally just frame and fork. It's also a frame thats continuously in production. Unless someone REALLY wants an orange one, they can always wait til the next run of bikes for arguably better colors.

Also, I don't agree with Joe on the tax season thing. You just overpriced your bike, it's a tale as old as time. You'll never get what you put into it. Plus you live in LA, I just saw a Larkin made in USA frameset sell for $500 a week ago there.

To add to that, yours will not come with a seatpost either. So if you're going to factor in the  "(In the fall a new Hillborne is approx $1,900 when you factor in tax and shipping!)" also factor in the cost and labor to install/purchase a new headset and purchase a new seatpost.

Adrain, I appreciate the feedback.

I forgot about the bb and seat post that came with it, and will amend the description. Thanks for that.

I rode the Larkin (Dreamer) that came up here, and while it was a screaming deal, it didn't end up coming with the fork. It also didn't sell for $500, the owner sold it for $900.

I dunno... I'm not very good at pricing things out. But it seems like a fair price. Maybe just a touch high.

I think you were right with the $1900 comparison to a new one (1750 F/F/HS/SP + 250 Shipping - ~100 HS/SP) And I was unable to find any of the listings that Adrian mentioned (I see a $3500 Platty frame and $3600 Toyo Atlantis complete on Ebay; And a $2850 Platty and $2200 Rosco both completes on Rad Bazaar) Personally, I always expect complete bikes to be discounted more because I assume half the components aren't needed or wanted. But a frame is a frame and either someone wants it or not.

It probably just depends on how long you are willing to wait on it. It's only the start of Spring, so half the country might not be thinking about bike riding at the moment. Maybe if you want it moved now, throw in the headset for free?

Ah, I looked right past that Roadini on the Rad Bazaar because of the photo! Whoever that is should change it, haha.

Never used Facebook Marketplace to sell or buy anything. Are prices there generally cheaper? That Cheviot is seems like a steal.

I’m on the overpriced side. This price doesn’t include shipping either, so take that out of the equation. You might get that price if it was new/never ridden, but not after riding it.

It’s not my size, but I wouldn’t consider it until it was $1200 or so. Then I would expect the buyer to come down a bit from that.

That Cheviot is kinda beat on. The price is fair, not a steal.

As for yours the price may be a tad high but I don't think you're being a lunatic about it. It sounds to me like you would take a reasonable offer, asking prices are starting points.

Thanks ya'll, I appreciate it.

Now I'm even more curious to see what happens. Meanwhile, I always felt as though the Rivendell depreciation was much slower than most other bike companies. Built to last!

@ Joe.. Kinda beat on? It's got a few paint chips, no dents. Specc'd with Paul components, Phil parts and silver brand parts AND it's a discontinued frame in a popular color. Also comes with a dynamo wheel set. For you to say it's not a steal and just a fair price is comical.

https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/3898759/ Toyo built Riv for $1700 CAD

https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/3846580/ double top tube hill borne for $1250 CAD

No matter how you cut it, the price is too high. Unless someone is looking for that exact size and color and they need it immediately, it will sit for a while.

Time out, folks.

How about we all take a step back and a deep breath?

We certainly do not have to agree with one another, but the basic tenet of this group is to treat one another with respect.

Thanks

One thing we can all agree on is how rad the Sam looks in every configuration. I’m strongly biased towards orange and yellow bikes and love what this one looks like with the black/dark rims, vintage Salsa stem, riser bar. It looks rowdy.

Appreciate you too Jim.

I'm Joe, I'm not the OP, not selling a bike. I'm not going to be talked to like that from a newbie pounding around here with a bad attitude. I've been on this group from the beginning, been following Rivendell from the beginning. Are we clear?

OP (Joe) - "better way to talk to me right now"? You asked for feedback and got feedback. The group (Adrian) did the market research that you chose not to do yourself.  Good luck finding a buyer that wants to buy an overpriced product from a snippy seller.
