The recent threads have inspired me to talk about my Rambouillet. It
is used mostly as an all day ride bicycle and sometimes acts as a
commute bike. It is equipped with 44/34 double with a 12-27 cassette,
Brooks Swift saddle, Nitto Soba bars, and Suntour Ratchet Friction DT
shifters. I carry a small under-seat bag that is just large enough to
pack a multitool, a new tube, a few stick on patches, two tire levers,
a pocket knife, a yard long shoelace, and a plastic bag that acts as
an emergency saddle cover. The tires a use alternate between 32 and
28 mm Paselas, I have mounted SKS fenders with either tire size but
prefer to ride (on this bike) without fenders.

There's a description of the build below the photo;  used a DuraAce triple crank, is the biggest departure from 'normal'.   I keep it on the 53 ring most of the time.

Differences between that pic and how it rolls today:
I've pulled the Acorn off, put it on the Bomba, and have a khaki Mark's Tool Roll on under the saddle instead, and have removed the 3rd cage from under the downtube, and removed the toeclips.  Saddle's come up a bit, and added a Cateye Micro speedometer.  Front tire's now a 28 RuffyTuffy, but still using a Pasela 32 in the rear.

I ride my 2002 orange Rambouillet as my road and long ride bike as
well. TA Zephyr 46/36/26 crankset on Phil BB, new wheels; XT hubs and
Velocity Synergy rims (rear is OCD) but I still have the OE set with
Bontrager Fairlanes, Continental Gatorskin 28s, Brooks B-17 Special,
Nitto post, stem and Noodles, Suntour Accushift bar end shifters
(beautiful friction mode), Suntour XC Pro front derailleur, Mavic 840
rear derailleur, Cateye Mighty and SKS 37 fenders, two brushed
stainless cages and a Topeak frame pump on the peg (it doesn't rattle,
wiggle or malfunction when needed as a pump). I'll have to update my
picture as several items have changed since last photographed, not
interested in documenting the chips up the entire right stay caused by
oaf hobby-horsing his bike to a ride sign-in, knocking it against a
low stone planter. "Sorry" would have helped but never offered. Quiet
ill will still fresh. Paint next off-season? Rode it too much this
past light winter. This Orange is way to great for a nail polish touch-
up so I'll have to drop for a great re-spray.

I am taking it on the Riv Rally East w/ my VO front rack/decaleur (P-
clamps as my fork is w/o mid leg braze-onswith bag, Carradice Nelson
Longflap with Bagman on the back, Superflash rear and whichever Cateye
LED for the front I grab.
