Heron Touring 1.jpeg

I’m selling a silver (or pewter) Waterford Precision Cycles-made Heron Touring bike in very good condition, including everything except pedals and saddle.  It offers a stable ride with OS downtube, taking up to a 35mm tire.  I have used the bike as a commuter, and for an MS 150 fundraiser (winning laughter from all the carbon fiber riders), as well as for weekend rides.  I’ve replaced the rear wheel bearing cartridges and 7-speed cassette; the rims are Sun CR18s with 32mm Panaracer Pasela tires; Suntour front derailleur; Sachs Centura rear with Shimano bar-end shifters; Sugino crank (50/38/26); Shimano cantilever brakes with Suntour Cyclone brake levers on Nitto Randonneur bars.  The frame is clean, with no dents or dings; there are some paint touch-ups on rear stays (chain suck) and underside from the previous owner; I rate its appearance at 8.5+.  Please see photos; several more on request.  There are web pages that give lots of information about this joint project between Rivendell, Waterford, and Ted Durant or, later, Todd Kuzma; happy to share them via a PM.  I’ll pack with care, and ship via BikeFlights to save costs for any potential buyer.  $795 + shipping & insurance

I have the exact same bike, it is a really wonderful, underrated machine. I don't ride mine enough, and think about selling it every now and then, but I take it for a ride and all thoughts of parting with it evaporate. It's 90% the same as a 58cm Atlantis at a fraction of the cost. Whoever snaps this up is getting a steal!

Chris, what's your set-up on the Heron?  I agree; like anything Riv, you can ask so many things of this bike and one thing you always get is the joy of riding it.

Mine is set up with a mix of Shimano components, 9 speed indexed with bar-end shifters. I recently swapped the cantilever brakes out for Deore V-brakes. The braking performance was immensely improved. I could never get rid of brake shudder in the fork with cantilevers. Here's a slightly outdated pic. I've changed the seatpost and saddle since then.

Nice build, Chris! What are those tires? Very impressive on this bike--and I like the Deore V-brakes idea; I might try that.  Tom

Sorry, I left a lot of details out of the build. Let's see if I can remember it all without having to go out to the garage.

Nitto Noodle Bars and Technomic stem
Tektro brake levers (the ones for long pull V-brakes)
Maroon Neubaum's tape
Shimano Dura-Ace 9spd bar end shifters
The fork is a Waterford-build unit with regular oval blades. My first attempt at getting rid of the brake shudder
Soma Supple Vitesse tires in 700x38mm
Sugino triple cranks - unknown model off a mid-80s UJB, 48/38/24 rings
Shimano 600 "Arabesque" front derailleur
Shimano XT rear derailleur
Shimano Deore V-brakes with Koolstop salmon pads (the best!)
9 speed cassette, 11-34, I think
SKS fenders, 50mm, I think.
Nitto seat post (not pictured)
WTB Pure-V saddle (not pictured)
MKS RMX pedals
Blackburn stainless steel water bottle cages
Blackburn frame pump
Nitto M12 front rack
Acorn tall rando bag
Velo Orange "decaleur"
