I picked up an accessory for my bikes recently and it looks like the only handlebar mount options are all for 31.8mm bars.  Anyone have ideas on cheap DIY to create the shims for 26mm bars?  I know i can pick up 1 for a few bucks but i need it for a few bikes.  I may just default to my go-to handlebar tape, but this is for an action camera so i'd like something a little more secure.  What's worked for folks?

I'm not quite picturing what you need.

The Nitto Lamp Holder 2 mounts to 26.0 bars and has a 22.2 extension bar.

If your camera has a tripod mount there's this : https://www.amazon.com/Minoura-Handlebar-Camera-Mount-22-29mm/dp/B005DMYRRC

Garth,
thanks for the reply, its simpler than i'm describing, the mounts i want to use are all sized for 31.8mm handlebars and i want to use them on 26mm handlebars.  i could just wrap tape around my bar to fill the gap, or buy a shim that takes my 26->31.8, but looking to do this for a number of bikes so looking for something simpler.  i'd rather not buy a stock piece of aluminium tubing and cut my own either!

tripod mounts don't work (but same idea) since the action cam has a go-pro style mount.

Innertubes or duct tape would be the easiest, yes ?  Or keep looking for adjustable mounts like this one : https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/582930-REG/GoPro_GRH30_Ride_HERO.html

The also make them for 22.2 bars for motorcycles that would clamp around the stem, if you can get the right orientation adjustment that is.

I'd recommend you get the right shims.  They are almost 3mm thick.  If they are of a material that is compressible at all, thick shims compress too much.  You won't get your thing tight.  You need metal shims or an exact substitute for metal shims.  I see Velo Orange sells a set of 4 for $7.  That should do two bikes for you.  If you need 10 bikes worth, spend the $35 and get the right 'tool for the job'.

If you had metal foil tape you could try wrapping something up, but even then the adhesive itself will stack up enough to end up with a compressible stack that will frustrate you.  The fact that you have multiple bikes makes me even more sure you should just do it right.

Aha, BIll that's what i'm looking for, http://store.velo-orange.com/index.php/components/handlebars/alloy-shim-set-for-vo-stems-26-0-31-8.html

two bikes for $7 is a little more reasonable to me then some of the other options i was looking at, thanks!

Also the shims are typically fairly wide, wider than stem clamps of course. Accessory clamps are often much narrower so you can cut just the width you need from the shim and do multiple clamps from a single shim.
