I am always curious if the Rivendells I see in the wild, belong to members of the bunch.

Saw these beauties at Town & Country over the weekend.

Lurked around as long as I could to introduce myself.
Looked like some folks were having a proper Saturday.

Keith,
Love this idea of a craigslist-style "missed connections" post!
I will remember to do the same whenever I see one in the wild.

Just in case this is someone in the group:
A few years ago (I think 2022?) I saw a fellow toyo atlantis (but in a petite 40-something cm size) in New Haven, CT with a generous amount of beausage on the top tube.
Would love to know your story behind all of the beausage if this is you!

Best,
IY

I saw this beautiful Sam in Brisbane, Australia late last year. I even left a note with my number but never heard from the owner. If you're out there, let's go for a Riv ride together! It's the only other one I've ever seen in my city!

Two pale green Cheviots seen in Upper Lake CA. while I was driving my bus s few days ago. There's also a lady I see in Clearlake sometimes, she has a bronzey green Cheviot and an Atlantis.

Serendipitous that I should see this thread today. Just as I passed by a blonde woman on an orange Cheviot in downtown Sacramento!

Test of the true cyclist: what caught your attention more: the bike or the rider?

That happened to me once and I’m proud to say that I passed with flying colors. I was driving North on Golf Course Road to Southern Blvd to my mother’s house in Rio Rancho after picking up my sister at the airport. We passed a blonde woman riding a steel road bike, and I immediately swiveled eyes hard right. My sister chided me for my lasciviousness, but I was really looking at the bike. Swear to God! (That is true, for the record.)

Also for the record, since Chris Young (Platypus and Clem) has been organizing ABQ Rivendell/steel bike rides, I think I’ve seen most of the Rivendells in our area; but I met longtime Riv Rider John Fellows on our main bike path — John, we will get together for a ride some day; hope to see you on the 2/7 ride.

Sorry, Chris owns a Homer and a Clem, not a Platypus, tho’ his wife has a Platypus.

The day I picked up my Woodland Fairy Platypus after it was built at my shop, I drove by the coffee shop and saw THIS. I could not believe my eyes. I hurried to the shop, collected my new bike and drove straight back to see if that Atlantis was still there. It was. I went inside, hoping to find the owner and hoping we could be bike nerds. I looked around the room but there were no obvious candidates. I asked the barista whose bike it was; he didn’t know. I finally zeroed in on a man I’m pretty sure was the owner but he was in an intense meeting with another man and it looked like business. What if I was wrong and I interrupted for nothing? What if he got mad?I chickened out and never approached him.

I once wrote an entire Instagram post on this beauty I spied out of the corner of my eye one day while riding down Fifth Ave on my way to work. I don't know how to link an Instagram post here so you'll have to go to @jsknyc_etc to see the details (just scroll down a little - I don't post much) ... I still see the Chev parked in the same place from time to time - but I've never seen the owner!

Last September I was riding through New Glarus WI on a Sunday morning, when I saw an older Atlantis on a bike rack on a pickup truck with a camper shell. It was a classic Atlantis-drop bars, bar end shifters, wide tires and a lovely well used patina. It was perfect, especially mounted on the back of an adventure rig with some dirt on it. I regret not getting any pictures.Anyone on these forums in New Glarus, parked near the coffee shop, on September 21, 2025?

Hey Randy,

I believe that was me! I had done this loop the day before, starting and ending from New Glarus campground. We had stopped for breakfast in New Glarus before heading back to Chicago. Here are photos of the bike/truck.

Hey Ben,
That’s the Atlantis! Sorry I did not meet you that morning-I live about 15 miles west of New Glarus and ride through on my Appaloosa frequently. Your rig stopped me in my tracks, it is perfect. 132+ miles the day before is awesome. Thanks for responding here. If you ever want a mixed terrain route in this area I would love to put one together for you; I have ridden nearly every township road the southern part of the Driftless area. Take care!

Keith, this is a good topic. Quite a few Rivendells here in ATL. Even at a distance they stand out.

Best,
Rich in ATL
