Anyone have a smaller delta between their car & bike wheelbases?

Maybe. Fiat 500. I very much doubt my 59 Clem would fit in the back, especially since I have a full size spare back there that takes up a quarter of the available space. Fortunately the car came with a 1/4 inch reciever hitch. The Clem hangs on the back just fine, ready for action.

This is old but challenge accepted. 29’er in the back of VW Bug. I actually did this again in our 2005 Mini convertible but do not have the pic for proof.:)

The Honda Fit would certainly be a contender. I had 3 full suspension mountain bikes with the rear wheels still on in that car. And one passenger in the back!

That Clem would not fit into the original Mini!

10+ years ago I came across this at a local trailhead: Italian road bike on Italian subcompact. Note: like the original BMC Mini compared to the BMW Mini, the original Fiat 500 was about 1/4 the size of the modern 500. This is a modern 500.

"Italian road bike on Italian subcompact"

Do you mean an Italian road push bike?  From the photo it looks like a push bike.

Confirming a 64cm Clem, wheels removed, fits in the rear of a (2007, anyway) Honda Fit, with rear seats folded down.

That includes wheels stowed with bags, backpacks and such for a week-long trip.

Might have fit my wife's bike on top of the Clem, maybe another time.
