Hi all,

I'm looking to get some advice on new tires for my wife's 2018 Roadini.

We are moving, and where we'll be living now is primarily a mix of mostly gravel roads and some pavement.

Currently running 700c x 33.3 Jack Browns (Green) which have been great.

She loves her Roadini and I wanted to see if anyone has any experience with running tires a bit more grippy/knobby on a Roadini that would maybe make things more conducive and safer on loose gravel.

I have been running continental crossride on my Sam when riding there and was thinking something similar might be good.

Not sure on tire clearance and what might be a good option for her Roadini.

Appreciate any advice!

Thanks!

Peter

Anything with a nice even height tread pattern does a good job of compromise between rolling well on pavement and providing some grip on dirt trails.

I think you are limited to 38mm tires on the original roadini, so that narrows the options a bit. But something like the Rene Herse knobbies (steilacoom? 38mm?) or the schwalbe g-one all-rounds (35mm at least) would be a good option to try out.

Good luck!

I used Continental Terra Speed 700x35 tires on my Early Roadini and really liked them. They rolled nice on pavement and were grippy enough on dirt.
I took them off to put on Jack Brown 33 1/3 because most of my riding on this bike is pavement, but will most likely put them back on when the Jack Browns wear out.

I'm using Terraspeed 700x40m tires on my Roadini and they work. Review: https://blog.piaw.net/2023/05/rivendell-roadini-1000-mile-review.html

For my wife I splurged and used the Rene Herse 700x38mm extralights on her gravel bike. Those cost 4x more for roughly 20% better performance.

Hey All,

Thanks so much for all the advice! Appreciate the feedback! Seems like some good options out there to try out that could work well and the roads ahead.

Thanks!
