I know Riv has referred to new DC 610 centerpull brakes as forthcoming and a good brake for the Roadini.
Has anyone seen these new brakes in person?
If so, are they basically the finish of the newer 750s?
I’m thinking of picking up a set, wondering if folks have an inside scoop as to when they’ll be available.
Also, if anyone has an older set for a reasonable price (that is, very cheap) that I could use as placeholders until the new version is available, I’d certainly appreciate it.
Thanks,
David

I’ve seen them on a demo Roadini at RBW. I’m not familiar with the new 750s so can’t really compare to those but the new 610 looked fine to me. Nobody there had an eta for them. My sense was soonish but that they just weren’t sure when to expect them.

David,
Velo Orange has them for $85/wheel.

That looks like a cnc made caliper, the new forged ones are more rounded in places.

I tried and failed to use these on the Frank Jones Sr. They fit the front just fine, but nowhere near enough reach for the rear. I've been saving them for another project, as they're pretty nice looking, though the rounded edges of the more-retro ones Rivendell's bringing in have an appeal, too.

I thought they mentioned a while back that they might show up in June. I am also waiting for them. If you are still looking for an older set, I have a set of Weinmann 610's that I'd be happy to send to you cheap. Message me if you're interested.

fun copy from Grant

We got our first samples of the new/reissued/semi-changed and seemingly improved Dia-Compe Mod. 610 centerpull brake. It has, at our request, a lighter spring return for the calipers, which means a lighter pull-to squeeze them. In the old days we'd all have strong hands from milking farm animals, but electronic keyboards and stuff have replaced muscle with meringue, and the lighter spring feels better. It's a really nice design---and has been since about five years before Woodstock. Here's a picture:

and it's true - I have NOS Weinmann 610s on each end of my '74 Interational (bought as bare frame), but we had a leverage advantage on our road brake levers then, and I know moving them to moustache bars gave me even more.  They were new boxed brakes bought separately on ebay, and surprisingly cheap - $15 ish.

I'm thinking you're thinking that's about enough pictures of a brake we don't even have yet, but it is coming, and now it's locked in. ETA nobody knows, but maybe early June.

One more sneaky copy and paste here - this may be enough to push me over - I could live with this.

A bike shop in Japan says they received the brakes on June 2, so it might require some more time until they land on US.
The blog post says "The surfaces of the new DC 610 brakes look nicer than old ones."

I ordered a set from Japan a while ago and they should be showing up in the next couple of weeks. I will be using them on the front wheels of a couple of bikes. - My Betty Foy for better clearance around the front fender (R-559 side pull on the rear) and on my Rosco Bubbe V1 with a 750 center pull on the rear. The 610 front/750 rear was common on bikes in the 70s. My Schwinn Paramounts came this way (Weinmann versions labeled as Weinmann or Schwinn Approved). The 750s work on the front of the bikes that I am going to use them on, but I hate the way that the extra brake hanging down below the pads looks so I am switching them out for 610s.

Very interesting attachment hardware. The female part is holds the brake instead of the male.

Weird - that looks like it would preclude the use of a Sheldon nut for easy fender mounting.

Easily swapped out for the standard style bolt. The rear appears to be intended for recessed mounting - not easy to find standard style bolts for that! 750s come with nutted rear, recessed front. Both of these are intended for front mounting on my bikes. One on my Rosco Bubbe V1 SS with the as supplied recessed bolt - no fenders. The other will be installed on the front of my Betty Foy with a standard front recessed mounting bolt and daruma bolt for fender mounting (rear brake is a sidepull). I will probably take the rear recessed mounting supplied with the 610 and install it on the 750 centerpull on the back of the Rosco Bubbe. They will all get spherical mounted brake pads, most likely Tektros that I already have..
