Anyone else catch Rivendell's instagram story a few hours ago? they have a teaser with merry sales/ soma tagged along with a seat tube with a sticker of "co designed with rivendell bicycle works"

i hardly see san marcos come up for sale used, so either they didnt sell many or the owners really love them and dont want to pass them on (or both.) very interested to see what they have cooking.

My buddy and I both have one. I will likely never sell mine.

I get more compliments on it (double top tube 57 single speed w/basket) than either of my Rivs.

I'm so excited to see what this is. If its a San Marcos with modern clearances I'm so in. I wish I had scooped one up last time around.

This is really promising news! I loved my San Marcos, but unfortunately had to sell it due to a move. Fortunately however, it went to a local RBW/iBOB member. Not sure why the San Marcos didn't seem to get as much love from the Riv community as the Bleriot (another Riv collaboration), even though it seems like they're very similar.

I always thought the San marcos looked like a great bike, excited to see it coming back.

Davey - what kind of clearances are you hoping for? Didn't it already fit ±42-44s? Are you hoping its more akin to a Sam (vs homer) w/ cantilevers and clearance for 48-50s?

There is a very nice one (they are lookers) on CL in NY state.  Nice description with pics and specs included in the ad. The price has drifted in the right direction...

Tange steel is still considered a decent quality steel, right? I have no experience with a San Marcos, but to me they’ve always looked fantastic, and the build quality seems up to Riv standards. I love that they are from that era where Grant was into designing bikes around 650b. I think if I had the opportunity to choose between a “budget” Rivendell of this era… say between a San Marcos, or a Bleriot… I’d probably pick the San Marcos because of the look and the steel specified.

It’s a tandem.

What a bummer. Would've loved to pick up a San Marcos given the chance. Wish they gave them the geo/bones of any one of their other discontinued models. A tandem is an odd choice.

Not a bummer to me! I don't think I am in a situation to pick one up right now, having more tandems than I have cash or storage space, but I would be super stoked to get one if the opportunity presented itself.

I love my San Marcos...
I have always wanted a tandem too....hmm.
I'm excited to see this collaboration return.

Being a current Soma rider I can attest that the current crop of Tange steel is still great. My Grand Rando is a very fast bike. Feels more similar to my Waterford road bike than it does my Sam. But the Sam is built to be fast and has heavry wheels on it where my Soma is rolling on some light Crest rims laced to some DT Swiss hubs
