One of the endlessly endearing things about Rivendell Bicycle Works, to me, is that they still from time to time cause new objects to exist that are just obvious that they should have existed long ago.  I saw this object in prototype phase on Grant's desk, and now it is here and available.

I've got one bike where I use a segment of worn out chainring to serve this purpose.  I have another bike where I use an upcycled aluminum caliper brake arm.  I'm trying to decide if this is an objective upgrade on those two bikes, or if I should just grab one or two of them for the next time (and the next).

I stumbled on these a few months ago when I was making an order from Blue Lug and thought it was pretty cool (and inexpensive) so added two to the cart. I didn't realize at that time that it was new or that Grant/Riv had a hand in it.

Generally, when Riv talks Nitto into making stuff they encourage Nitto to sell that stuff to everyone.  Generally, Riv is not into exclusivity.  They sincerely try to get stuff made that they think ought to exist.

I recall seeing these on Blue Lug's site a while back. It seemed to suggest that this was a Blue Lug / Nitto collab idea, but maybe Riv also had a hand in it. Grant has said it before, but quite often, Blue Lug does Rivendell even better than Rivendell does.

Just bought this to install on my bike. Should be here early next week.

I imagine this would work mounted mid-way on the support stay like the "bent plate" style lamp holder too using a Nitto 'campee bolt', much more elegant than the plate version.  I'll certainly add a couple to cart next time I'm putting an order in anyway if they're in stock!

Not that it matters much, but are these steel or aluminium?

They are aluminum.  Same 7mm stock material as Nitto rack stays.

Hmmm... I have quite a few extra Nitto rack stays. I think I'll take the BFH to one of them to bash the other end flat and then drill a hole.
cheers,

I did something similar with a short Nitto stay. The rack had an extra mounting hole, so I didn't need to add another flat end. I don't have a bending jig, though, so the result was ... workmanlike.

I just wish more front racks had the front and center mounting point of the Nitto M1 (version that has that). IMO the superior light mount point

If you succeed in making your own end with a BFH, please share your success story.
