I really want to put a 2x Middleburn crank (square taper) on my 2023 Joe but I am so confused by Middleburns numerical system. Can anyone knowledgable here advise me which crank I need to get for a decent fit and chain-line on this frame??

Thanks!

You want the RO1 cranks with a starting point for BB spindle of 118mm to adjust for 135mm vs. 130mm rear spacing.

You can certainly run the RS7 with a 113mm BB spindle as well, but the Q-factor on the RS7 is significantly wider (~22mm), hence recommend for RO1 above.  If you love a wide Q, the RS7 will get you there.

I have two pairs of Middleburn RS7 cranks installed on bikes, both using their Duo chainrings (42/29 rings on one and 38/27 on the other), and using Phil Wood 103mm bottom brackets gives me a 45mm chainline. I also have one of their RO2 cranksets on a bike with press-fit BB, and I have their Incy spider on that, which uses 110BCD for the outer ring and 58 BCD for the inner, so you can setup a combination such as 40/22. You can also get spiders for the Middleburn cranks to set them up as 130/74, 110/74, 94/58, 104/64, etc.

I haven't measured the Q for any of the Middleburn cranks, but I ride very much heels in/toes out, and so I like cranks that flare out from BB spindle to pedal eye, or I have problems with the inside of my heel hitting the crank as I pedal. I have one pair of Shimano Deore touring cranks from the early 1980s, where the cranks don't flare out at all but are completely parallel to the centreline of the bike, and I had to fit pedal spindles 10mm longer than standard to avoid heel strike on the cranks.
