I strongly suggest Rene Herse tires after how transformative a pair of Stampede Pass ELs were for my Rambouillet. It was like having a new bike. I rode farther and faster with less fatigue afterward.
The RH EL tires ride so well that they recreated the bike and provided more opportunity to delve into the sort of riding motivating a new bike on a 650B front load layout and built it around the 650Bx42 Baby Shoe Pass standard casing in tubeless set up.
The EL casings never showed weakness even pressed into loaded duty riding the GAP/C&O Canal to Washington. They afforded me the ability to vary inflation like never before and I did rim pinch a few times while (over) enjoying the comfortable ride.
Here is a picture my rear wheel and Stampede Pass EL after hitting a pothole at 35mph. Overnight downpours opened the hole in a lane I rode 12 hours earlier and with traffic I had little reaction time or space to dodge it. The tire was intact and tube remained inflated. The Wheel was not as fortunate but with some physical adjustment I got it to turn between the brakes and I rode the community event with the folks I was meeting. The tire and tube survived, the rim was what needed replacing.
I love the RH BSPs in standard casing for my tubeless set up on my rando bike and have a hard time imagining dropping to the "classic" 650Bx38 width. 60% of the riding I do on the 42s is paved including fast weekly group rides April-October. I am hard pressed to switch tires with the mileage and durability my RH choices have produced.
