I used B-17s for years , but my nether parts couldn't take it anymore. Has anyone tried the Rivet Independence? I was very comfortable on my B-17s until they would develop the extreme hump.

I tried one of the "larger" Rivets than the Diablo (I don't remember which one) and opted for the Diablo (the skinniest saddle). I love them. I only went skinnier because I like the ease of getting behind the saddle on steep dirt/single track descents. Otherwise I liked the wider saddle just as much as the narrower one.

With abandon,
Patrick

Deacon,
Thanks for your reply. What saddle are you currently using?

Rivet's Diablo on both the Hunqapillar and the Quickbeam.

I have 3 bikes, and my saddles are well-dialed-in.
On my drop-bar road bike, I have an Indy, well over 2000 mi on it and love it - if I replacing it someday, it will probably be with an Indy All-road.

It's slightly set back more than this photo, now I had to go to a Super Record quill seatpost to solve a squat problem in the seat tube.

As far as B17, I'm very happy with Special on my semi-upright moustache cockpit bike.

But when I built an upright bike, I found the Special to stretch too quickly.

So I went for a thicker Select on the upright bike, have over 3000 mi on it now and love it.

ps - neither of my high-mileage B17 (Special and Select) have any kind of hump or undue stretch.
I did solve a sag problem on low-grade B17 once by cutting holes and lacing it - it would have become a bad hump problem if I had tightened the stretch bolt instead

This is the saddle I replaced with the Special, and have no problems with the Special on the moustache-cockpit bike.

all the low-grade B17s should be laced - would be nice if Brooks was listening

The truth is that all my B-17s were Champion Ti models. After a lot of miles, they all developed the nasty hump. I am not going in that direction again.

not leather but what about a Brook C15 or 17? I rather like the 15 on my Campeur and no maintenance to worry bout

I love my Indepence. So far good for 600k rando rides, plus you don't need rain cover for it. My B17 only good for 300k.

No experience with the Rivet but if you are looking for thicker leather the replaceable top Berthouds are pretty good. I use the Aravis and the Aspin with excellent results. For comparison, I had to lace the Anatomical NSX within 6 months of use.

The Rivet Pearl is closest to a B17 width-wise.  The Independence is closer to a Pro in the Brooks line.  My experience is that the Pearl is more stable, holds it’s shape better,  and is less likely to sag the the B17.  This may be due both to the thicker leather and the “fender tie” that prevents "fender flare”.

Lovin' his Rivets over GB’s and Brooks, in Natick , MA
