Just acquired some lime green cloth bar tape which I hope to weave
into a diamond pattern (along with blue tape) on the new green
Hillborne's mustache bars. Ordered a set of 700x35 creme colored tires
since I tried my Schwalbe Supremes (38mm actual) and they wouldn't fit
under fenders with enough clearance to suit me. I'm hoping to ride
this in an up and coming 'family style' ride put on by the county park
department in my area. I'm also enjoying my new MUSA shorts and blue
suspenders (nothing like plumbers crack to spoil a fellow riders view)
The fit is nice and I plan to buy another pair along with some long
pants now that I know they fit.
Not sure if the Creme tires are long lasting (UV / rubber wise) but
I've seen a few bicycles fitted with them and they look kind of
vintage. Its a groovin bicycle and I'm glad I purchased it. If any of
you are on the fence regarding the purchase of a Hillborne it is a
fine riding bicycle. Not a tank and not a flyweight just a solid ride
that handles predictably. When price is a consideration, I don't think
you could purchase a nicer riding Rivendell.

If you want to ruffle the feathers of fashion and get some awesome short-ish pants in the deal, try the MUSA Knickers.

Would love to see pics of the diamond/harlequin wrapped bar when you do it. I've been thinking to try it but haven't gotten around to it.

FWIW... I had to up-size my fenders (to 50mm... I think) to get adequate clearance under my Supremes.

Thanks Andy.....I may have to get some new Longboards or some metal
fenders but yea.....got a itch for Creme tires so we'll see how they
roll first. The Supremes are my fav tire for performance and ride
qualities (on my Trucker). Using some 32mm Ribmos on the Hillborne now
and while nice enough they are just a little narrow for my 260 pounds
except on smooth asphalt. Really need a wider cushier tire. The chip-
seal roads are annoyingly buzzy at 90 psi.

I've gotten some of the terra cotta Schwalbe Delta Cruisers that RBW sells. I'm going to give those a try on my green Hillborne. If they work nicely for me, I'm going to get some creme Delta Cruisers for my orange Hillborne.

The terra cotta/green and creme/orange color pairings seem just about perfect, in my book. But of course I'll have to see about the tires themselves. I already know the Delta Cruisers are heavier than the tired I've been using. But I'm wondering about relative wet-grip, mounting, and noise.

Yours,
Thomas Lynn Skean

I've posted this pic before... +1 to the beauty of the terra cotta tires/green frame combo.

I run 40mm tires (Kenda Kwick Roller EZ Ride) under 52mm VO Zeppelin
fenders on a 56cm Sam. Plenty of room under the fenders.

hi charlie, which fenders would not take the 38mm marathon supreme (i'm guessing these are the 42mm labeled ones?), i'm thinking about a pair of supremes and want to make sure i can clear my fenders--eyeballs say yes, but any other data point is useful!

I have the Planet bike fenders on my Hillborne now and while they
would clear.. it was really close. I may try some Longboards. I don't
like running tires super close as the tires often pick up rocks and
sticks etc. and grind them through the fenders. I mounted my new Creme
700x35 Delta Cruisers and they seem fine. I'll be posting a photo soon
with my attempt at two color bar tape.
