I know this is a long shot, but thought I would try one more time, having missed on a couple earlier this year. Would prefer a frameset. Would entertain the thought of a 62cm Atlantis with the rainbow tube. Basically I love my Appaloosa and would like to pair it with a Rivendell with more tire clearance. Thank you.

Why not buy that bombadil on ebay? I think it’s a great deal

Thank you for the suggestion.I’m sure the Bombadil is a great bike, but I’m not really interested in it.

I can't find the exact issue right now but I saw it mentioned in an old Riv Reader that the Hunqapillar was essentially a less fancy Bombadil.

I have a 62 Hunqapillar and a 64 Bombadil. Ryan is correct, they're essentially the same bike.

But.... the heart wants what the heart wants. I can completely respect Randy's decision: maybe he doesn't like the black and cream of the Bombadil or its horizontal TT. Maybe he's after that whimsy of the digitube or the rainbow tube those ~6 year old Atlantis's.

On that subject, the current Riv lineup seems a bit bland to me. No, double TT's, no digitubes, no rainbow tubes. It's lacking that whimsy it used to have. Other than the Platypus, all the current frame kind of look the same. And kind of do the same? Even the "single speed" is now basically the same as ever other bike. Where has fanatical Rivs gone??

I don’t need a Rivendell with more tire clearance, but really love the two bikes I am looking for. Thank you for the responses and opinions - I appreciate this forum.

You used to be able to get a pre-owned bombadil for a song.  They were also some of the earliest 650b bikes when that became a thing.  I joined riv when they grey bean hunqs were current, but opted for a sam h. at $990!? since $1875 seemed unobtainable for a bike at the time, and I was sort of in between sizes on a hunq.  I did eventually buy a used 650b hunqapillar which was a grail bike and split the difference between the 54 and 58 of the 700c model.  To me, the 650b wheel size harkened back to the early bombadil.

I think the first time I saw the Hunqapillar for sale at Rivendell the framesets were $2600, which I could not imagine paying at that time. Of course, the fact that they were made here in WI at Waterford also matters to me. Thank you for your story of getting the Hunqapillar!

I tend to agree on this one Ben. I have 2 Riv's, on from early 2000's and a 2018 Clem H. I like the old ones better for some reason. Maybe I just like discontinued things, but the older ones had a bit more "magic" to them. Now every frame seems to be slowly morphing into one another - the Atlantis, Appa and even Roaduno now look almost identical minus small differences. Miss the double TT, swoopy tubed bikes for sure. Still beautiful frames though.
