I was pleasantly surprised when visiting my LBS yesterday, there on the for sale racks amongst a bunch of used bikes was a gorgeous Rambouillet.

Tag has it as 58, for $1,500.

It’s over at Bikes Not Bombs in Jamaica Plain.

It’s a real beaut!

I drove over to JP this afternoon and found the bike. "So, whaddya think?" I said. "Take me home," said the bike. So I did.



Peter, thank you for the heads up! I've been looking for one of these for years...

More of this in a bit. I have to raise the seat and go ride the bike now.

Congrats, Rod. The best colorway... probably never to-be reproduced. And a classic Ritchey crank, too. 

Hope to see it on the road/bikeway sometime.

Thanks! I look forward to it. I raised the saddle a bit (necessary), and took it for a little shakedown cruise on the Minuteman this afternoon. It's a sweet bike, and I've got a little list of wrenching projects for it forming up...

No, I don't, although a 3rd party did initiate a list discussion about it prevously. I'm guessing it got to BnB as a result of a charitable donation.

Once again, thanks so much for the pointer to this bike at BnB! 

Today I swapped the GR-9s and Power Grips for a set of MKS Allways platform pedals (with Knee Savers; I'm afraid that for anatomical reasons, low-Q is wasted on me), and went for another test ride, which was wonderful.



I also discovered that the Schwalbe tires that I thought were 28mm are actually 32mm; I'm thinking I'll just swap in some Stampede Pass ELs and not pursue putting on any larger tires or fenders (with brakes to match) for the remainder of the season, and just ride the bejesus out of this bike before the snow, ice, and road salt arrive..

As Uncle Andrew would say, A dem fine looking bike, dem fine!!

This is the bike that drew me to Rivendell. They were making blue ones by the time my wallet caught up to my wants, but it rides great too. Enjoy the heck out that bike.

I'm 100 miles in on a cycle of ride a little, tinker a little on this bike, most recently raising the handlebars and adding a Bananasax (the blue fabric works well with the blue rims, and contrasts rather than clashes with the orange). More to do, but it's fun all the way. Here's a ride report.
