Silver2 thumbies ARE NOT compatible with VO thumb shifter mounts

A while ago I was foolish and pushed a user on here to buy a Velo Orange thumb shifter mount to use with the silver2 thumbie without knowing for sure if it will work. Well I'm here to let everyone know that they are incompatible. The cable would be misaligned and the shifter is simply too large to properly fit.

Thanks for the correction and the photo.

Does anyone know if the XOXO RIV 2.0 shifters might fit on old Suntour XCPRO thumb mounts? I also can’t remember if the RIV designed thumb shifter mounts arrived and sold out, or if they’re still in transit. I’ve searched blug n blahg but haven’t been able to locate any updates.

The mounts haven't arrived yet. I have one Silver2 shifter and I think an XCPro around here somewhere. I'll try that combo for you and check back later today.

Pending arrival of the proper mounts, I used a pair of Paul Thumbies.  The cable is slightly misaligned but it works.  Getting the proper tightness of lever to mount is a bit tedious but do-able.  The action is nice, and I tried Riv's idea of mounting them inside instead of on top.

No go on the Suntour mounts, it's a very specific and integrated setup.

Thanks for checking, Joe! And thanks to you, too, Doug for the reminder about the Paul mount working but only as a temporary bodge.
I’ll keep waiting for the full RIV set up.

I have a vague memory of Paul having a special adapter for Silver shifters....

I’ll look up in the attic later because I think I have some squirreled away 🐿

Alex, I'll buy a couple adapters if you find them. I have the Paul Thumbies and one Silver2 shifter (so far) that I'd like to match up.

Looks like my brain matter is still retaining information ok. I found this post from surlyprof/John back in ‘17:

Oof, good news and bad news. Found this on the Riv site:

“They hold Shimano 8s or 9s bar-end shifters so you can still shift and index with Shimano thumbshifters. It's a clever idea, a smart idea, a thoughtful one, and the world's a better place for these. Paul used to make an adapter to make these work with Silver shifters but have since discontinued it. These won't work with Silver shifters.”

Good news I have two pairs, one I’ll horde for myself. Joe you can have first dibs at the other pair, $20 plus shipping sound reasonable? I couldn’t find a price anywhere...
