I bought a pair of MUSA pants and they’ve quickly become my favorites for cycling and just wearing casually. Has anyone tried the shorts? I’d love to hear some feedback. Thanks,
Doug

Doug, I bought a second pair, I liked the first so much, but I did not like the elastic belt and replaced it on both pair with webbing that was not elastic. Steve

Hi Doug,
I've got two shorts, one knickers, and one pants. I like the latest design of the shorts. Material is just right, pockets are properly sized (a problem with the older version). I like the belt closure, too.

The knickers are my favorite for cooler weather. (Too warm for 50F+, as they block wind really well.)

Durability of all are great. I play on the ground with my kids without a worry when wearing knickers or pants. Work great for camping and wrenching on the bike, too.

Good luck!

I have 5 pair of the pants and three of the shorts, I love them.  The long pants are especially nice casual pants for people who ride all the time, the shorts are nice but have little advantage over a pair of athletic brand shorts like Reebok.

I have four pair of the shorts and have worn out another two pairs. I also use them as baggy swim trunks. They seem to tolerate the pool chlorine well. They are the only shorts or swim trunks that I've had for years.

Doug,

The MUSA shorts have been perfect for me. I live in them 5-6 months out of the year. Proud owner of four pairs and one pair of knickers.

Best,
Richard

Doug,

I own 2 pair of the MUSA shorts, purchased 2017.  Wore them on the Divide this past summer, 53+ days.  I will note that in preparation for the Divide I read a bunch of guys experimented with different cycling shorts.  Keeping it short, several guys advised against traditional padded cycling shorts.  I tested their theory by riding short local rides in wool underwear and the MUSA shorts.  I would repeat this several days in a row, simulating the Divide.  My particular butt felt pretty good.  FYI: I rode a Brooks C17 saddle.  For the Divide I took the plunge and wore the wool underwear with the MUSA shorts.  Gotta say this combo worked really well for me.  Wool underwear because of their anti-microbial property and they don't smell even after a solid week of cycling(!).  The MUSA shorts held up well, day after day.  Hope you are having good luck with them.

Jeff,

I appreciate the feedback. Sounds like lots of people like these shorts and that they are durable. I've not tried wool underwear so that may be something to consider for longish rides.

#1 for wool underwear and unpadded MUSA shorts. I wasted 20 years trying to get comfortable on upright bikes with padded cycling shorts, then rode recumbents for a few years. A Brooks B17 with wool and MUSA was a stunning revelation. It works!

So what brand wool underlings would you all recommend?

Seconding Joe’s recommendation on the Devold merino shorts Riv sells. Yes, they’re pricey but they are super comfortable.

I use them exclusively for travel since they can be worn multiple times before washing (Kookaburra wool wash is great). They also dry quickly.

Try a pair or two. Boosting Riv’s January sales:-)

Regards,
Richard

I just toss 'em in with regular laundry and try to remember not to transfer to the dryer. They probably last longer with special treatment, but regular wash/air dry has been fine for me.
