I just wanted to share with the group how pleased I am with my Rodeo. Before getting out on a 25 mile ride up the coast, I re-installed the original 44cm Noodles and I have to say that I really love these bars. I under-estimated the comfort they provide as well as so many hand positions. I feel a little stretched out as I begin my rides so I stay in the curves, just behind the hoods. As I warm up on my ride I start to stretch out and ease into the hoods. Very comfortable indeed. I also switched my tires from Compass Stampede Pass 32mm to Schwalbe Kojak 34mm and there is a noticable difference. No twitchiness and more stable. I think Riv bikes just work well with certain components. The Noodles and Kojaks are just 2 examples. Perfect day/perfect bke.

thanks guys. the waves aren't bad either.

Ryan, it's a White Industries VBC crankset 44/28 and BB. I think it's wonderful but expensive :)

Bruce:

Check it out tomorrow; bigger swell coming in.  I see you've got the official water bottles.  Nice build.  Interesting comment about the wider tires.  I wonder how it would do with 38s?

Hi Rene, it's a baby blue but I don't know the exact color. I bought it from the group member Don Compton so he would be the one to ask. He might have told be but I can't remember. I like it as well so thanks.

Hi Doug, I have used the Compass Barlow Pass 38mm on the Rodeo and they work very nice. There isn't a lot of clearance in the chain stays but I have off-roaded single track with Dr. Greenblatt and it worked awesome. I have those tires running on my Ritchey Breakaway Titanium Cyclocross and really like them on that bike. They are a little difficult to seat on the Ritchey Zeda II tubeless ready wheels but that might be more the rims than tires. I finally got them going with no lumps and it's going well. I'll have to forward a picture of that bike sometime. I thought the swell was winding down but would be great to see some bigger waves tomorrow. Although I'm mountain biking along my older daughters track team tomorrow morning.

Cheers,

Bruce

I was the original owner.
A little history: when Riv first came out with the Roadeo, I e-mailed Grant P that I was excited for Riv to offer a road-oriented bike. I told I wanted one and he offered me his frame. I drove to Riv in Walnut Creek and after going the crazy color books, Grant talked me into "Mary's blue". Mary is Grant's wife and it's her favorite color. It's a light gray blue with a gold overspray.
I sold this bike because I was having crotch problems with my Brooks saddles. Well, I foung a Specialized Mtn saddle and bought another Roadeo and sold all but two of my bikes. I ride my current on every ride.

Great that even the sportiest bike from Riv will handle 38s.  Getting introduced to the Verdugos tomorrow by some local LA guy you may know.

Bruce,

The bike looks fantastic! The wider Kojaks and Noodles just look right to me.

Bruce, glad to hear you got the Roadeo to work out! I have Barlow Pass tires on my RB-T and have considered trying to fit them on my Roadeo, but I think they would be awful tight at the chainstays based on my recent experience trying to fit Schwalbe G-One 700x35 tires. Too tight IMHO.

Beautiful bike, Bruce!

Interesting to hear Don speak of gold overspray. I imagine it adds a subtle something -- as it did with the orange Rambouillet.

I've got Barlow Pass on my Roadeo, and they are working fine so far.

Nick, do you have much clearance in your chain stays for the 38mm? I had very little spare room but they fit. They worked nice on that bike but we're difficult to take on/off wheels unless a let out a little air.

I'm wondering this as well. I have Barlow Passes (regular casing) on my RB-T but don't have the RB-T at home to test fit them on my Roadeo. I test fit a 35mm tire measuring a true 35 (Schwalbe G-One) and had less than 2mm of clearance at the chainstays. It had some fairly aggressive knobs though and I was afraid they would rub at some point after picking up sand and dirt. I'm pretty sure the Barlow Passes were around 36mm when I installed them on the RB-T, but they have probably stretched a little. I will have to measure them again. I wonder if the new Compass Bon Jon Pass 35mm would be a better fit on our Roadeos? Mine is a 53 with 43cm chainstays, so I guess it's possible the smaller models have less clearance.

Mine are also regular casing.  The tires are measuring at right around 37 on my rims, and the tire-stay gap is at least 4mm (Hard to get an exact number.  Don't know if frame size makes a difference, but mine is the largest size.  I was actually inspired to try it after reading an early review of the Barlow Pass, where the reviewer had put them on his Roadeo.  Think it was for one of the bigger bike magazines, but I don't recall which one - but it is online out there somewhere.  Bon Jon pass hadn't come out when I bought mine.
