Anyone know where I might find one?

I think I remember Alex's Cycle  having these 5+ years ago. But even if they did, they're now out of anything shorter than 90mm. :-(

Not the first time I've missed my rare chance to get a bike part I want. (Which is a fact I use to rationalize purchase of too many relatively obscure bike-related items. I clearly don't need more than one Nitto R-50, for whose future I fear, and yet I am glad I have more than one.)

Fortunately, every now and then some person will have an obscurity they aren't using any more. (More rarely, some company will bring something back: I have high hopes for the OM-1!)

Yours,
Thomas Lynn Skean

I too have had good luck with tree fort. However, that is a 225mm stem, not 280mm.

Thanks for the consideration!

Ah, sorry. I was under the impression the Technomic was the longest one they make, so didn't check the numbers.

I thought Will mentioned last year that the Nitto R50 bag grip is discontinued, so you are doing the right thing having a spare.
I have two regular ones, and one frame only (the no QR version) but I wish in retrospect that I had sprung for the full version that time

Does Nitto still make the Dirt Drop stem in 8 cm and 10 cm extensions? I recall using the 10 cm to get a Noodle up nice and high but sufficiently close-in on a 19” or 20” level top tube mountain bike (NORBA type) despite a top tube fully 1” longer than my road bike norm and tiny stack; and I had quill to spare.

Jim G’s stem comparator ought to tell you the effective -17* extension equivalent of both the 8 and the 10 cm DD models.

Personally, I preferred and still prefer the look of the DD to that of a “7” with a yard of quill showing.

I have used a dirt drop in precisely that way. In the spirit of “to each his own”, I found I preferred the look of the tall 7-style stem. :-)

But I will seek to discover relative positioning of a dirt drop vs short&tall. They might be close-ish.

Here's one, 280mm height, 50mm reach, but it's for 25.4mm bars:

It is understandable that all response listings thus far are close-but-no-cigar listings.

I’ve decided to try the “dirt drop” (10cm) route again. Even if I still can’t love the way it looks (which is probably too important to me :-() it may prove more beneficial now (which may have grown overwhelmingly important over the years :-)).

I found the dirt drop I want online, probably paying too much. But well, in the grand scheme of nice bike things, the “too much” here is not *that* much. And it does pay for some considerable convenience (which grows more important over the years, too :-)).

Soma has an 80 in stock, might be worth setting a notification for when they get the 60:

Thanks. I have registered for just such a notification.

I have the dirt drop 10 now, which appears to be effectively a teensy taller than a 280mm quill and be effectively a teensy shorter than an 80mm extension. +/- a  couple teensies.

If I find I still want an actual 50-70mm extension “7” stem, perhaps that 60 will show up and I’ll get notified. I am not holding my breath.

Yours,
Thomas Lynn Skean
