I had a student comment about bike helmets and he told me that he didn't like all the helmets that looked like coral on people's heads.  I don't really like them either and this summer I bought a new helmet and I'm very pleased with it.  It's a Bern Watts and it is a much more substantial helmet than the old Giro Atmos it replaced.  It has a built in visor that is very effective at blocking sun and rain.  The visor is actually like a shorty bill cap.  Very cool.  If you are looking for a new helmet I think this one is right up the Rivish alley.

"Coral". That's a cool comparison!

Is the helmet hot to wear? Looks hotter than coral since it has less ventilation holes?

Thanks for the tip, a Bern helmet like that just might get me wearing protection for my noggin again.
I would take a double-XL, and will see if REI or other source can special order for me.

Whip boy that looks like a sweat bucket for the warm season!

I have Bern that I use for winter - complete with fuzzy earflap liner. It's way too hot for anything over 40 deg.

I'm wearing it in Thailand believe it or not.  It's not as hot as you'd imagine.  It is a sweat bucket but the liner is way easier to clean than all the small pads in the coral one.  I thought the same thing when I bought it, as far as all the heat, but it isn't bad.  My wife and kid have one too and they don't complain either.

Just for clarity, auto-correct changed Whoo to Whip in my message.

I bought a Bern Brentwood, in size XXXL, through Erik's bike shop in MN. They had the lowest price ($72), free shipping, but most importantly - they carried the triple-extra large size. REI only goes up to XL.

I got the gloss white model, and now I look like a bicycle policeman when I'm riding. It will be fun to decorate with some hi-viz retroreflective tape.
