This Sat. March 4, rain or shine, at the west end of Marina Park near Salute Restaurant, Marina Bay, CA, 7AM. Bring your brewing set-up/thermos and meet some like-minded cyclists. Only 4.5 miles from El Cerrito Bart Station, and most the ride's on the SF Bay Trail to the meeting area.

Here's the crew from the first Coffee Outside Bay Area this morning. A cool, overcast morning we brewed our coffee and ate homemade biscotti. Then a few went for a ride...... Every Sat. at 7AM; hope to see some of you soon.

Aargh!
I've been working on my French press caldera setup and forgot coffee outside was this morning!
And it was just a wonderful 5 miles on the Bay Trail, too!
It was in the back of my mind, but my memory twisted and remembered it as wanting to go photograph the early spring waterfowl along the waterfront.
Double aargh, is next Saturday at Marina Bay as well?

Have fun!
I ended up going out of town for the weekend, but will lift a mug to you.

Here's a pic of when I had Saturday coffee outside at Marina Bay awhile back.

Coffee Outside this Sat. 7AM. It'll be dark when you start out but you'll be there for the sunrise. Bring your brewing set-up and if you don't have one bring treats to trade for some coffee. Lucky Duck of Oakland has donated a prize for 1 lucky cyclist. Hope to see you there. 4.5 miles from El Cerrito Plaza BART; mostly on the SF Bay Trail.

Thanks Roger. I really enjoyed talking with you. I seem to find more than coffee and bikes (coffee roasting) in common with all of you-nice.

Coffee Outside is coming this Sat., 7AM. There's an incredible prize donated from Rivendell for one lucky cyclist. Bring your brewing setup/thermos or some "eats" for trade and I'll make you a cup. Rain or shine (there's an overhand if it's raining about 50 yds. from where we usually meet). Right now the forecast looks good. Hope to see you there! More info. @cowboygrrl

Hi Kellie, As it turns out I follow you on Instagram. I have been looking at some of your photos from past meet ups and wanted you to know that you have inspired me to start something similar here in Upstate New York. We still have snow on the ground here but I will attempt to organize some coffee outside events when it warms a bit. I have an Aeropress but I don't have a stove to boil water yet. It's on my wish list and will pick something up soon. Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi Tim! Thanks so much for your words. I was heavily influenced by #coffeeoutsideyvr  Take a look at their feed; they're meeting in the snow-the middle of winter. Keep me in the loop of your developments; I'd love to follow you and support your group.

Thanks Kellie! And thanks for the follow on IG. If I you don't mind I may reach out to you for tips on how to get something off the ground.

No problem, glad to help. Also if you want any info on stoves/equipment for “coffee outside” activity feel free to ask.

Thanks! actually that is my first hurdle. I am trying not to spend a ton of money on a stove that may or may not get that use. I still have some wanderlust in my soul and hope to do some sub 24O outings but again I am a newbie at all this and don't have much gear. I have found a few videos online showing how to make a simple stove out of a beer can which uses alcohol for fuel but I am not sure if that is best for my needs. So yes I would be very interested in learning about what would make a good stove.

I’ve been using an alcohol stove off the bike for the last few years and also used them camping. They work well, nothing to recycle like a canister stove, and one uses denatured alcohol which you can find at hardware and paint stores. Also cheap; a gallon will last you forever for about $12. I bought a little kit called the Caldera Keg and it’s in the picture announcing the last coffee outside. Here’s a link: https://www.traildesigns.com/stoves/caldera-keg-f-stove-system Only downside for alcohol is below freezing. There’s canister stoves like this: https://www.rei.com/product/114890/msr-pocketrocket-2-stove but more expensive and then you collect empty canisters. They’re efficient and boil water fast. I’ve also used the Whisperlite which lasted about 15; used when I backpack. This has a refillable bottle: https://www.rei.com/product/830342/msr-whisperlite-universal-backpacking-stove a little more finicky than a canister, but you can use in any weather and boils water fast.

I like the Caldera keg kit because the keg acts as the pot and is included in the price. Not too expensive. Also very stable and has wind blocking inherently built in. Here’s a good resource: http://www.bikepacking.com/all-posts/

Thanks to RBW for the sponsorship! And Kellie for hosting with baked goods and the home roast beans for the second cup I did not think I needed!

It was a beautiful morning out there.
