I don't know all the details but the producers contacted us for some
Riv gear to use on the show.
Something about a car-eating sinkhole, amputations and an imaginary
Rivendell storefront in the background.

It airs on Thursday at 9pm (8central)

We're famous!

Well someone involved with the show must be a Riv owner or fan.  Fun!

I sense a Patrick Dempsey tie-in. He's an auto racer, and many of them ride.

Rivendell succeeded by countering trends (not a good in itself, but
good if the trends are bad) and by being faithful to Grant's design
and riding ideals -- he said long ago, "We are product driven, not
market driven." I hope, sincerely hope, that Rivendell does not in any
way become lifestyle- or fashion- or trend- attached. I worry when I
read threads about matching bags and complementary bar tape and
coordinated Riv-based riding outfits.

I love my Rivs -- I've owned four and loved three -- for the fit and
ride quality. Everything else is secondary, even looks and quality
(tho' quality in front of looks and looks not neglected).

Dempsey's been in bike magazines more than once. I didn't really read the articles.

For the past 52 years, I've been wearing outfits that don't coordinate
with too many others' expectations of what I should be wearing.
"Uniform Infraction" (or something that has the same intent) has been
a frequent theme of employment until I found a place that cared more
about my intellectual and creative contributions than a false sense of
bouffant professionalism. I've been wearing wool and mukluks and
tincloth and leather and dapper caps and hats long before I came
across Riv. So when I find someone who's making clothing that matches
my sense of self, is practical yet has a certain je-ne-sais-quoi, and
fits my little body--which I gotta tell you is rare--then I support
them. That said, I have on occasion looked at myself and laughed
because I was head-to-toe wheel-to-wheel riv'ed out. It's not
intentional on those days, not following a trend, just what happens.
I figure who else would find that funny but this group?

Reading a book my 9-year-old son likes, I noticed it had a scene at a "Cafe Verve" in Walnut Creek, CA. I think it said something about the number of bikes parked in the area.

I had presumed the cafe to imaginary. But now that RBW has stepped into the world of that sort of marketing, I wonder. I expect a Rivendell edition of the VW Rabbit to appear in a showroom near me soon! :)

None need fear bad or weird stuff following or behind the TV spot. We
were sitting around working when the phone call came. I didn't get
it---it went to Dave. They explained that they were trying to fake up
a bike shop or something, and needed some props.

Dave shot digiphotos of some and sent them off, and in short order we
send them off some stuff (no bikes, no tweed bags, no lug mobiles). A
banner, a poster....I'm not even sure if there's a RIVTHING in there.

I mean, I don't know what posters went. Maybe an ol Bstoner, or a
Frenchy. Dave took care of it, and .... the plan was to use the stuff,
but we can't be sure it'll show up or be recognizable.
The chances of this exposure changing anything here are less than the
chances that the earth will be hit by a meteorite before the show
airs. I'm betting the scene gets chopped, anyway!

Spot on, Liesl.

If I were to ride wearing no MUSA clothes, cease using my SaddleSack Medium / TrunkSack Small / Tool Wrap, replace my handlebars with non-RBW-sourced styles, use a saddle not made of leather, or push down on some non-Lambda pedal, I'd only be be doing it to *avoid* being as "Riv'd out" as I am. And I'd be somewhat worse off for it.

I can't assert that, without Rivendell, I'd've plucked *all* these products from the AEBike web-site to form my cycling ensemble. They aren't all mission critical. But I was headed in that direction before I first knew much of RBW.

That those things all come from/through the same place is no reason to avoid enjoying them.

Yours,
Thomas Lynn Skean

Since Grant guarantees we're about to be hit by a meteorite, anyone want to by my gofast?  My Bombadil will survive even a meteorite, I'll wager.

OK, I kid I kid

So did anyone catch it? I only made it 15 minutes into the show...had to turn it off.

I agree. About as awful programming as I have ever tried to watch.
