Sighted these guys on a SamRide (TM) along the Highway 56 Bikeway.

They are apparently Red-Eared Sliders which are not native and most likely escapees or rejects from someone's home terrarium turtle habitat.  Or, considering the area, a generation or two beyond.

There is something about a SamRide that brings out the observable.  Perhaps it is my attitude whilst riding such a bike.

Hugh, Curtis, and Mike can attest to our passage through a photo/film shoot of dubious character after clawing our way up a power line service trail to Torrey Pines Public Park.   These things only seem to happen on a SamRide.

Tom,

I'm sure the same can be had on a Boulder bicycle. What bars are you running on the Boulder? It's okay we can sort of talk about a non Riv bicycle in this group. And yeah that was a curious sighting surfacing from Gonzales Canyon.

The Boulder All Road s running Noodles.  I like them.

After a lot of thought, reflection, and assessing what I feel (pains, discomfort, where I ride it), Sam is transitioning to a Noodle bar bike and lightening/being graceful.  He is also getting an Eyc and rear tail lamp as I am riding him to work and working long hours.

I ride the All Road purposefully.  All Road runs fast with just the stuff I need.  Sam glides in a more meandering fashion.  My rides home from work take me where they will.  Saw a baby deer tonight on the 56 and just took the time to look at him/her for a while.

I grew up obsessed with turtles and it all started with a pet store red eared slider i named Turk. At one point I had over a dozen 'guest' turtles I had caught locally in VA or down in NC... All eventually making their way back to the wild. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the reminder! I've got a friend about 25 miles away that has 4 tortoises (bigguns) and a whole turtle room in his house. This is the time of year to hang out with the big boys, they get pretty active in early Spring. Looks like I'll have to find the time for a 50 mile day w/ my son soon...

Best,

Pretty much sums up my thoughts on the subject:

That's awesome! And in character no less.

Tom, thanks...we had a pond with turtles but the raccoon's kept making our pond a dinner stop so we took them to a larger pond at Descanso Gardens with a bunch of turtle friends. Last I saw was a little head with a red chin popping up from the surface of the water and some other turtles swimming over to him.
