One of the things I like about Rivendell is their encouragement of individualized setups. What are some examples of permanently modified Riv bikes that you all have had, or ridden, or seen? I can think of a few examples.

Anyone have disc tabs on an Atlantis or Appaloosa?

Anyone weld on a child seat mount?

Belt drive modification for IGH?

Homebrew tandem?

Etc.

In 2006 I decided it was foolish to do 2/3 of my riding, commuting, on beaters when my 2003 Riv Road Custom was gathering dust while hanging on the wall. So I took it to Dave Porter for adjustments to make it fixed-worthy, and turned it into my commuter bike. A year or 2 later I had Chauncey Matthews make a custom, ultra-petite rear commuting rack, About 2015 I asked Chauncey Matthews to replace the Campy 1010s with **really** long dropouts, and add custom f and rear racks with internal dynohub wiring (the ultima Thule of this progression is the pseudo Riv replacement that he is even as we speak building to replace the 2003 and all of its works).

The 2003 was built by Curt Goodrich as an analogue of the 1999 gofast, but with a derailleur drivetrain. But I asked Curt to install a removable leftside dt shifter boss, and rode it as a 1X10: 46 X Am Classic 11-23 or 12-27.

Here it is in one of its intermediate phases, circa what, 2012?

At the Nutmeg Nor’Easter a few years ago, I saw a guy with a disc-equipped Atlantis. He looked like he was having an excellent time on it.

I had my AHH modified for internal wiring and Paul braze-on Center pull brakes.

I haven't done any modifications but I might someday consider having my 54 cm Hunqapillar (700c) converted to 650B.  Even with the large BB drop, 60 mm tires would give a good BB height.  I've decided that 700c x 50 or bigger tires are just too cumbersome for the riding I do.

I could do disc tabs and have the best of both worlds but I have no experience with them and don't know if I would like them.

I came across your bike Brian when researching ideas for how to run a tail light wire on my Sam, just an hour ago, and immediately thought of it when I saw this thread!

Related to that, I'm considering brazing the Rene Herse taillight on my Sam, but in all likelihood i'll go with fender mounted.

Thanks Jason! I got the tail light here:

Anton, is the maker, ibob and riv list member and all round good guy. The taillight has worked perfectly for years, in all kinds of weather.

That shifter is great. You can pretend that you are Gino Bartali in the alps in the 1938 Tour de France. And nice rd!

I've installed top-of-seat-tube shifters for S3X hubs where shifting is only occasional because I wanted something easy to install and remove -- the 3 speed wheel was an occasional wheel. Why did you choose to put your shifter on the stay?
