I am now the proud owner of a new Charlie Gallop. I took him out for the inaugural ride this morning--about 22 miles along the canal and then along the river.

Initial impressions:

(1) I'm not used to friction shifting. I had some issues with the chain jumping between gears when I changed my pedal pressure. Especially when I needed to pedal harder, it would often jump into a higher gear. Relatedly, I had some difficulty finding a good "medium" gear. I need to practice! (2) But overall, this is a really fun bike. Stiffer than my Platypus, and also much more responsive. It also really wants to go fast.  (3) I've done this ride a bunch with several different bikes. This one might have been the most fun.

Cool bike, and welcome to new experiences.

You also should assess the friction shifter and ensure that the bolt that provides tension is tight enough.
