Hi,
This first-generation Heron Road was designed by Grant Petersen in
the late 1990s, built by Waterford Precision Cycles, and sold by
Rivendell Bicycle Works. This all-steel, lugged Reynolds 531
tubing bike is in impeccable condition as are all the parts, since
I put only 280 dry-weather miles on the odometer since its recent
build with new parts.
For now, though, what do I love best about this bike? Takes wider
tires than many road bikes, and it's balanced, elegant, and much
fun to ride. Parts highlights include Velocity wheels bought from
Rivendell and the ever-lovely Sugino Alpina silver cranks.
At $950, I believe this is a really good deal. Note the
price does not include the saddle, pedals, and accessories.
Detailed geometry and parts info below. Please read the NOTES
below, too. Note as well that I cannot ship the bike right now, so
the price is for pickup here in northern Westchester or I'll
deliver your purchase within a 25-mile (or so) distance from my
home.

NOTES
The bike combines Campy Ergo shifters with a Shimano mountain rear
cassette and a compact crankset. The Campy-Shimano merger is
powered by a Shiftmate, a device I've found wonderfully reliable
across dozens of bikes, with indexing as accurate and smooth as
single-group setups.
Hey Frank, Hey Joe, thanks for your posts.
If I were 10 years younger or had 10 fewer bikes, this Heron wouldn't be for sale. But I'm crazy, since I'm both thinning my herd and adding to my herd at the same time.
Bicycles create a form of comfortable insanity in me, something 2020 really really needs.
