I'm wondering if anyone could recommend a specific front derailleur for my 64 Clem. I took it to a local bike shop and they weren't entirely sure what FD to install/order b/c of the granny gear. I have a Silver 38/24 wide/low double with 9 Speed 12-36t on the rear. I'd prefer something simple, cheap, and easy, of course. Thanks in advance!

I've dealt with 718Cyclery in Brooklyn from afar and would recommend that shop. I know he has built up Rivendells and likes steel unracer bikes.

Hey Justin,
If you are friction shifting it, Pretty much any decent derailleur should shift it. I might try a Shimano CX 70 that is designed for a double chain ring.
If there is a shop around that has crates of vintage parts, you might be able to find something nice that will work.

Hi Justin,

You can have this vintage XT fd for shipping if you want it, I'm guessing around $15. 34.9 clamp which I'm 95% certain is what your bike takes, maybe someone here can confirm.

Low-mount clamp, bottom pull (normal stuff that will work on Rivs). It will shift your cranks fine, just remember to mount it with some clearance to the trouser guard..it's a triple derailer on a triple crank, both were designed with a big ring in mind but that has been replaced with a guard that isn't much bigger than the middle.

I can send more pics that show you what the heck this is, this pic is weak.
