Last summer, two roof-mounted bikes* got splattered with big juicy bugs. So far I have only used regular car leash soaps and sponges for this, but the bug goo is not moving. I even started on the day after the goo-ing.  Any tips for removing these splotches without fading the paint?

Thanks

* and the car beneath got it even worse. These bugs lived Drumheller and east to about Melville. They made loud popping sounds

Have you tried Goo Gone? There are also specific bug-removal products available at your local auto parts store, Walmart, etc.

I like Plexus for this job, works on cars and motorcycle helmets too.

I have tried very little -- I dropped the bikes off in Ontario and then have seen little of them since. Hoping to find a good remedy to take with me when I get back to them next month.

And I thought I would practice on the car, which is here, to learn what works

Thanks

WD-40 for the win. Spray on, let it sit awhile, wipe. Repeat if needed. Leaves paint nice and shiny. I use it all the time on my bikes too, removes dried bugs and anything else while leaving a brilliant shine. And no, WD isn't a solvent and doesn't do anything to paint but leave it shine.

Segue but not irrelevant: Has anyone used WD40 to get dried Orange Seal off of frame tubes?

I do know that WD40 clears up ancient plastic automobile headlight lenses.

Purell hand sanitizer
Or WD40, as others have mentioned

Then put some good auto wax on it.

Hydrogen perioxide in a spray bottle with a few drops of dish soap like Dawn or Joy will also do the job.

I’ve used lighter fluid plenty of times and have never had any issues.
