I'm surprised a new thread hasn't already started on this:

https://www.rivbike.com/blogs/peeking-through-the-knothole/genuinely-limited-edition-frank-jones-sr

Grant lists plenty of detail regarding sizes, colors, availability, lots of fiddly details, etc., etc.  Enough for a person to get excited.  While I'm not a single speeder myself, I know a lot list members are so now's your chance.  He mentions that ti would be really neat to move 'em into the wild as soon as possible.  Now that I think about it, this would make a great holiday gift for you or someone you love.

I'm also not a single-speeder, but I am very tempted to try it out. I've wanted a bike with the Rivendell classic lugs for quite some time, and I could build this up mostly with parts on hand as a single-speed drop bar commuter. I just need to know what's the largest size I can stand over with my short legs, and which color. I've wanted a silver Rivendell for a while, but I'm not sure about the darker gray "grilver" version.

Assuming the grilver is the same or similar to the first batch of clems and then cheviots, I'll say it is way better in person. Single handedly made me like metalic colors again. And, unlike any other riv color i can recall, it looks equally fantastic with black components or that cheap looking painted silver that manufacturers have started using, as it does with classic polished silver. Of course that might not be as important of a consideration on a single speed.

Yep, I want one. Waiting on angles/geometry to choose between the 51 and 53, in blue...

Don't bother calling Riv ... I talked to Harry today -- he had no additional details except the frame will be $1500 including frame, fork, headset, seat post.  They're "too busy" to get the geometry numbers...those will supposedly be available on the site Monday or Tuesday.

There's new info there, but no full drawings. The chainstays are long enough to easily accept a 38 tire moving back and forth, and probably with a  fender if you can finagle it (it's possible, as long as you don't insist on supreme "fender lines" throughout the range). The seat- and head tube angles are what anybody who knows our bikes has come to expect--shallow seat, moderate head---and the fork rakes balance to the head tube angles for handling the way we like it. The drop, the same as on Roadinis. Tailored to road use, not steeply banked tracks. Two bottle bosses, eight dropout eyelets, midfork and high rack mounts, split cable stops at 11:00 so you can shoulder it cyclo-cross style and bound up the train station stairs. We overthought it in a typical way, as both a matter of pride and reputation, and to avoid shame and angry customers. I think at least by now there's more tech-numbers on the FJS (with an availability quotient of less than 30) than you'll find on most bikes made by the tens of thousands. And...the neat thing is—it's Rivendellish people who know and care enough to ask!

From what I’ve read so far, FJS sounds like it is going to be somewhere between a lovely bike to own and an instant classic.

I love the blend of old and new lugs, the way it showcases innovation on an “obsolete” technology — and (why not?) some lovely fillet brazing to boot. All the single speeds I’ve owned are do-what-you-can conversions. I love that FJS has been designed exclusively and thoughtfully for one cog and all it represents (extra long dropouts, no pump stop, cables stops on top!). All with the ride quality, practicality and smart looks of a Rivendell. Doesn’t hurt either that I’m one of the odd ones out who still prefers drop bars...

To summarize: 😍.

Enjoy it, you sub-89.5 PBH-havers! I’m jealous that I’m a shade too tall for a Frank Jones.

Yeah John G, I'm pretty sure I'm in the same boat with a 90.5 PBH :(

The Black Mountain Monster Cross (58cm, $650ish) and the All-City Nature Boy (55, $600ish) are looking better and better, thanks to reviews on this site and many others.

Even a Vaya (57cm, $799ish) plus the ENO Eccentric is on option.  Had one fully geared, never shoulda sold it - would be fun to experiment with it.  Geo is remarkably close to the 58 Sam.  A Roadini with the Eccentric wouldn't be much more expensive than the Vaya ... but these might stray away from intentional SS setups to a degree not worth it...dunno.

Just FYI, at a 91cm PBH, I ride a 62cm BMC Monstercross. You might think about upsizing a bit.

I STILL have a brand new Hunqa-green Quickbeam frame and fork that's never been built. We've got to be approaching 10 years now....Every winter I say THIS winter I will build it up. The Frank has got those thoughts going again.

Cheers!

Eric, thanks for the input.  When comparing some geo numbers it looked like the 58 Monster Cross (vs 62) would more closely align with the 58 Sam I have, and the Vaya I once had:

I like the look, especially in combination with the custom lugs of the Frank, but at only $50 it does raise the what's wrong with it question.

That looks a lot like the IRD or zvelo Orange cranks. I agree, at $50 you have to wonder what's wrong...

Them the machined-after-forging ones, no doubt fine, but the ones coming up are the '70s style, just forged. Same reach, but possibly--can't say sure--some modern hardware tweaks.
