Hi Jeff,

Here are some photos of my Clem Smith Jr. "L" bike with Dia-Compe 980 cantilever brakes. Let me know, if you need more pictures.
My bike came with V-brakes. I took them off and replaced them with the 980s'.
I like them.

Paired very nicely with those Dia-Compe levers, which I think are really nice...as nice as Pauls IMO.

I know, I know, Paul Components is a US company. I had their Racers installed on my mixte and I could've gone all in and got levers....but dammit, the dia-compes are nice...and reasonably priced.Just sayin'

Atlantis with some 980's that need adjusting. https://ibb.co/BGNrHCy

I forgot to mention that I, too, have the Dia-Compe levers paired with the 980 brakes. No complaints.

Got some for the Miyata Triple cross I built as a 2 speed a little while back - I've loved them so far. Easy set up and good performance.

Hello Mike with the Bob Jackson. Nice looking bike. What front cable hanger is that? I never seen one like it before.

King of Mercia?

Tubing specs by chance? 753? 853?

Looks like standard diameter tubing?

Hi John S

Erik Billings who did the braze-on mods and other frame stuff, I asked him to make a rigid longer drop cable hanger. It is chro-mo tubing, probably seat stay tube with a 6 mm barrel braze-on. Erik made two of them, one went to someone on the i-bob, 650b, or Riv list. Powder coated aluminum color when the frame was done in green.  He also made a couple of "paper clip" style rear cable hangers - longer than Nitto or SOMA - that hangs from the seat post clamp bolt.

Hey strong +1 that the Tektro Oryx brakes are terrible. Had a set on my Surly LHT.

Here is a pic of the same LHT with 980s right before I sold it.

I'd like to add I think the 980s are a great looking brake, nice for the price, classic, innocuous, they check a lot of boxes.

You should buy that set from Jeff, you can't go wrong.

Mike, that second hanger went to me! And you are correct- I'm on all three of those lists! The hanger is currently on my San Marcos which is for sale due to an overseas move this spring. Erik did a great job on the hanger; it's long enough to be out of the way but still stiff enough not to have any flex when braking. I think you should convince him to make more, as I think there's definitely a market for long hangers like this.

Not a riv but setup like one! A very minty '88 StumpJumper I recently converted to a city cruiser. Very pleased with the brakes and koolstop pads.

Thanks! Really went back and forth on silver vs black, but I'm pleased with the end result

Nick, that's one clean Appaloosa! Did you just give it a refurb? I'm in the process of giving my QB one.

No, the bike has been sitting in my back room for a while as all my cycling lately has been unloaded riding on other bikes. I find that the Appaloosa is too stoutly built for unloaded riding - I have other bikes with frames made from skinnier, lighter gauge tubing that I prefer in that situation.

Nick, different bikes for different functions, I subscribe to that.

I ran those brakes on my FW Evans build. They worked great for that build since it favored pavement riding but when I tried to run them on my Monstercross on the rough stuff, I swapped to mini-v's.
