Finished getting this Rosco Platypus together last month and took a few photos on my ride today :) Picked up the frame, bars, and crank at the Rivendell garage sale.

Really nice, thoughtful build Matthew, and I like the color on this bike. Classic Riv! Funky-cool rear brake cable hanger you got there! Curious about the area on the seat tube above the front derailer. Industrial accident?

Very nice build Matthew,

I suppose that's why it was in the garage sale and the need for the creative cable hanger. Looks like a BMX cross bar clamp around the seat post (something I would do).

Guys, I'm pretty sure that is just a shadow from the raised pedal/crank. (John - Platys, Rosco or otherwise, are designed for V-brakes and don't have built-in cable hangers for cantis.)

Matthew - welcome to the Platypus club! Great build and very nice light for the photos. Looking forward to seeing more ride photos (see the ongoing seasonal ride photo threads)!

That is fantastic looking! I hope to see it soon on a group ride or on the trail.

Nice job! I think that Rivendell should just go ahead issue the Rosco Platy as a standard model (and keep this color, too).

Here’s how I detailed the rear brake hanger. Not so quickly adjusted but my wife hates me fiddling with her bike, now that it is dialed in. The green most closely looks like the seat tube in this photo.

Looking good, Matthew! I like the multi-colored zip ties. Those brass caps, are they from Blue Lug? I've also seen some from Moné. I'm nuts for brass but at $20/cap I'm too afraid to lose one.

Allan — The cable routing around the seatpost clamp is tres elegant! Is that two noodles in sequence, diving into the rear canti hanger?

Thanks, Eric, that’s a Shimano 135 degree noodle, found at Nashbar. I added the small bit of clear tubing as chafe-prevention.

Thanks all for the kind responses! It’s such a smooth ride that I’m always looking for excuses to hop on. It’s also so unexpectedly speedy and really zips when you want it to. Hope to join some local rides soon.

Marty and John – David is correct and that it just a shadow from the pedals. Sorry for the confusion.

Eric – They are indeed the pricey Blue Lug ones which I was very fortunate to receive as a gift. They thread pretty securely but I’m always a little worried they will disappear.

Allan – Love that noodle and cable hanger routing! I picked up my hanger on the cheap cheap and made it work, but it’s pretty short and pushes the cable bend a bit further than I’d prefer. Might tweak it to be closer to your setup in the future :)

I'm looking for the correct bolt to use with those brass crank caps. It seems all the bolts I can find have an integrated black cap that interferes. Thanks.

Hey Jared,

That black cap is usually just a rubber ring that can be removed in my experience.
