Kinda sad that I missed out on what I believe was the "Golden Years" of Rivendell products. Not saying that their products aren't Golden now. It's just that I always end up finding Rivendell products on ebay that were sold years before I even found the website.  With that these are things I wish Rivendell sold still.

Rivendell wool jersey! <---- Always feel like when I find one my size on ebay they go for 4 !times the original price. I like pockets on my back I feel for biking it's the easy accessible place to grab things. Also they make for great places for hiding bananas

Aussie leather slipper wool socks << I had two pairs of these that were a size too big for me but I would still regularly used on camping trips. I loved them! But after a couple of washing the leather bottoms were done. When I went back to try to get them

Wool Uno pocket shirt<--- I remember seeing these on the website and thinking how smart it was but never jumped on it because I was a poor college student. Now Rapha sells one for like 80 dollars! I felt they were a smart design that was way before their time.

Rivendell Brooks saddle? <-- I've seen these floating around the internet from time to time. I thought it was a neat idea.

Anyone else have other things they wish Rivendell still sold?

Their original line of relatively inexpensive, relatively crude saddlebags -- perhaps there was only one, just a little larger tho' a different shape than the Banana Bag. I don't even know the name. I had one but gave it to my brother, alas. No leather: the thing was tied up with canvas straps and made from very heavy Filson cloth with a thick cotton drawstring neck.

Nitto "Aero" and Pearl stems. Does anyone have a 8 cm Pearl to sell or trade?

I'd also love a Riv wool jersey. Maybe it's racer-like, but I like keeping my valuables/ID on my body and the back jersey pocket is much better than pants pockets.

I missed getting the headbadge fridge magnets. I think they might make a comeback at some point...

The Rain Pants.  I wish I had picked them up.  I was always like "I am not sure about the orange."

After having spent a ton of time riding in the rain, orange is PERFECT.  Deep regret on not picking them up.

Many things Nitto (including Pearl stems in most all sizes) are readily available from Ben's / Milwaukee cycles. Their pricing seems similar to RBW where there is overlap, and all my dealings with them have been great. When I can get what I want from RBW I usually do. But for things they don't carry, Ben's is great.

Regarding the more RBW driven products that have gone missing, I am hoping the rain pants return this winter (when it rains here in nor cal). When they were discontinued I got the impression that a revised version was in the works. Perhaps the jacket will see the light of day sometime soon too.

QuickBeams!

My Nitto race cages all came from RBW.

Though I certainly understand why both are no longer carried.

Very glad that front racks, Wald baskets, and ShopSacks are still carried.

Me too! I was about to get one of the last pairs in my size on closeout, but they vanished while I was waiting for something else to come back into stock... I can't remember who I asked at Riv but they said they couldn't get the fabric any more.

I consider my RBW cycling jersey an heirloom-worthy treasure. Yesterday, I completed day one of the KC MS 150 on my Simpleone. I received several compliments on the bike, but many more positive comments on the jersey. I would happily buy another (or two).

The wool jerseys that Riv sold in the past are great.
The 'Rivendell' one is my favorite. I missed out on the blue one but got the olive-greenish-browish one.

I too would love a new Riv wool jersey.  I sent an email to Riv asking if there would be another run and was told that Woolistic is the only one who can make them and they have moved their production to China and Riv won't buy product made in China.

Yep. I will certainly add to the wool jersey wish list. Also the seersucker shirts...mine has gotten more use than any other button up in the closet. Every button has been replaced, it's been mended 4 times, lost twice, and travelled 8 states. Still kicking myself for not buying 2.

I'll add, although not a direct Rivendell product, the dirt drop nitto bar. I know some resurfaced, but I missed those. I've never tried one or even seen it in person, but have always been curious.

Speaking of Wooly Warm, I'd like another pair of their wool pants. My pair has been through two rebuildings and could use replacement. I know someone offered me theirs a while back when I was out of money. With front pockets (they zipped) and one rear you could actually almost make them pass for pedestrian.

Not to give a peek behind the curtain or anything, but the Nitto Dirt Drops (RM-013) are still in the Merry Sales (SOMA parent company/ Nitto importer) catalog so you can still get them.  Ask around your LBS'es to see if anyone has a Merry account, and they should be able to order them for you.

I bet Riv dropped them mostly because they weren't big sellers and they needed the inventory capital elsewhere.

This happens only because the OP said "Things I wish RBW STILL sold",
and was probably intended to ruminate about beloved and bygone
products. A few people misread this as applying to products that are,
in fact, still available, just not at RBW.

i certainly miss my bridgestone jersey. Jack kimmes at Kulshan Cycles pushed me hard to buy one when they were on sale. Bless his heart.

But the other things I miss more than anything were the Riv/ibex no fly underpants. i would buy all of them i could afford today.

The reason Toyo is so highly valued is Grant made it such a strong case for them back in the day. We still believe him.

+ 1 for the vest. I have the button-up, crew neck sweater cousin, but a thickish wool vest to wear over a jersey and under a jacket would be more useful.

Does anyone have recommendations for a snug-fitting, crew or roll-top, zip/button/no placket, warm-weight (ie, not dress weight) knitted wool vest?

+ 1 also for the LS wool jerseys.

I have a had a few women who have asked where they can buy that exact bike and I inform them they can't. I have had people ask if they can buy my wife's bike because they like it so much. Yes you can buy a close approximate with a custom but that is cost prohibitive. Bring back the elegant version of a step though frame.

+1 for All Rounder

I would buy one today if it was available (as a standard non-custom priced frame)

I really wish Riv would really add a 26" XO/All Rounder style ride into the lineup

I would like to third this idea. I was hoping the upcoming mtb would have a 26” wheel, but am told all too often its a dead end. Steve

The Legolas, light merino wool tee's, and the nylon knickers would be my choices.

I like the cut on older MUSA, shorts, knickers, and especially the long pants.  I have 3 pair and live in them all winter - now they've made them for shorter people.

And here I was thinking I was the only one holding a candle for lightweight 26"-wheeled allroad bikes! I bought a pristine 1993 Bridgestone MB-1 a few years ago, converted it to drop bars (a la the 1987 model), and put on a pair of Rat Trap Pass ELs. It's my favorite road bike I've ever had - the confidence, handling, and cornering grip on pavement are astounding, and when flying down rough dirt roads and trails, I occasionally say to myself "this thing is really good off-road too ... oh wait, it's a mountain bike!"

I then built a Rohloff - disk brake equivalent around a New Albion Drake frame intended for 650b/27.5"/584 wheels with tire widths ranging from 42-48mm. I instead built a 26"/584 wheelset and run standard Rat Trap Pass tires (52mm) on that one. It's basically all I ride now - high, flared drop bars, quiet, maintenance-free drivetrain with perfect shifting across all 14 gears even while stopped, and a cloudlike ride over all surfaces, It's definitely heavier then the MB-1, but I only notice that when lifting it, not while riding it!

There is nothing like either of these bikes available off the shelf, which is a pity. Going down to a 26" rim and running the widest and tallest ultra-lightweight tire available makes me wonder why anyone would want a larger rim diameter. And my MB-1 is the largest size they came in (20.5"?) and my Drake is a (virtual) 58cm, the second largest size, so the sizing the wheel to the frame thing doesn't make sense to me when there are wider (i.e. taller) tires available in 26" than in other sizes. In my experience the height of the tire off the rim makes far, far, far more difference to me than the diameter of the rim. I run 20x2.0" Big Apples on my Dahon folding bike and ride that thing on all sorts of dirt roads and trails as well. Think about that: it's only a 20" rim, but the tires are wider than the widest lightweight 650b tire (48mm) currently available!

That said, 26"(559) and 27.5"(584) are really close to each other; in reality, 27.5" rims (650b/584) are much closer to 26" rims (559) than to 29" rims (700c/622) If all things were equal, then I think the difference between 26" and 27.5" rims would start to be a bit of hair-splitting. For example, my adventure touring tank is a Surly Troll (also Rohloff-ed and also XL - I like my frames big even though I'm only 5'9") running 26x3.0" WTB Rangers. My friend's Marin Pine Mountain (really nice bike) has 27.5x3.0" Schwalbes, and when the two bikes are next to each other, the overall wheel size difference is minimal. So since there are plenty of adventure frames intended for 27.5x3.0" tires and plenty of tires available to match, I will survive if 26" adventure tires become unavailable. It will mean new rims and a new frame, but we are still a long way from that point.

But, for road tires, all things are NOT equal. The Rat Trap Passes are the widest lightweight tires available, and only available in 26", and frankly that combo fits a lot of road-oriented frames better than a 27.5/650b x 52mm tire would, especially if you want to run fenders as well! So I will keep a bike or two capable of running RTPs as long as they are availabe, and at this point that means nothing from Riv. The two 26" wheeled 58cm Atlantises that popped up for sale in the past few weeks are the closest they've come in recent years, and those are drool-worthy.

I wish Riv would make a utilitarian, TIG-ed, 26"-wheeled bike in the lightest tubing they are willing, like a Roadini or AHH, but built like a single person HubbuHubbuH. I would call it the HubbuH. It would have the threadless 1+1/8" steerer and the Eccentric Bottom Bracket and ONE of the disk-brake eyelets from the tandem, and no double top tubes! That way I could set it up with derailers like my MB-1 or with my Rohloff like the Drake. (The EBB is needed to tension the chain, and the single disc-brake eyelet is used to for the anti-torque arm). This would be the perfect all-rounder: room for up to 26"x60mm tires with fenders, and useable with derailers, but also as a singlespeed/fixed gear or with a Shimano or Rohloff internal hub. The best part is that HubbuH could be taken as "hubber", as in the first Rivendell that plays nicely with IGHs. Since the HubbuHubbuH uses two headbadges, this would only require one. It could be built using parts they have already used in the past, and it would give them a nicer alternative to the Breezer Uptown 8 that I otherwise recomend to anyone who will listen.

I think I have given this too much thought, and written words, for that matter.

Daniel,

Another 26" wheel fan here. My 53cm Atlantis has them and I concur with you on the confident handling, cornering and turning in qualities this bike has.
Good to know a 26" wheeled Atlantis is still available.

Old-style, slightly baggier, MUSA knickers & shorts.

The crotch is way too high in the new MUSA pants and I love the knickers.

When I wear out what I have, I'll have to stick to the Compass knickers. If they bring back the old-style knickers, I'm buying at least a dozen pairs.

That's a pretty looking frame, and the price is hard to beat.

The ad copy is obscure: - Tange Infinity Butted CrMo steel with HT steel tubes

What is butted cromo and what is hi ten? Do they mean cromo main tubes and HT stays?

[This site seems to explain it. Apparently cromo fork, too.]

At any rate, I'd consider one of these for my daughter, if she were ever to take up riding a bike again. (Right now she's driving my car.)

OTOH: is this an illegitimate Riv design rip-off?

I don't think New Albion is ripping anyone off design wise. The frames are not Rivendells and don't quite ride like them, but they are nice. Ours came to $1,100 fully built, which is less than many frame sets only at RBW.

I wish that Riv still sold or that I bought a set of their fancy Phil Wood hubs. It turns out that the combo of high-flange bodies, freewheel threading, 36h, and 135mm axle is not readily available anywhere else, even as a custom order from the Phil web site.

I've also been waiting for a 26" wheeled bike from Riv since the all-rounder. Although I'm not a short rider (I'm 6' tall, with 89cm PBH), I want to ride a 26" wheeled bike once again. Quick, nimble, fun, and versatile tire sizes. I love my Sam, but I'd buy a 26"er in a heartbeat if one was offered.

The 26" Surly LHT fits Rat Taps with fenders, and is a hoot to ride. (Lest anyone feel the need to reflexively advance the "feels dead" trope, let me suggest that Compass tires have a vivifying effect). But agree, a Riv offering in larger frame sizes that mounted Rat Traps would be a GOOD THING.

Thanks Bill,

The reason I was looking for a smaller version of Huge Rosco MTN Mixte were precisely 4 (more aesthetic) reasons:

1.) Uses Hunq fork instead of Joe fork for larger tires
2.) The Hunq fork is can fit the Nitto 32f mini front rack which i already have
3.) The seat stay cluster is much nicer on the HRMM
4.) I like the color better of the HRMM

Till then, I'm probably going to keep my eyes peeled for the yellowish-green CLEM L. Or wait to see what Riv puts out next.

- Books! I miss the book selection that was at Bike Book and Hatchet. I'd love to somehow see this brought back. The Riv Monthly Book Club? Once a month, a book from Riv is delivered to us along with a written thing on who selected the book and why they like it, and why we should read it. Would be fantastic. I'd gladly sign up now for this.
- Pakistani Goat Skin Padded Riding Gloves - (whoa they have them back now. yay!)
- El Duke's Degreaser (seems perpetually sold out)
- Grey Grid line of bags. Specifically, the Large Grey Grid Bag (if anyone has one they'd like to sell, please message me off list!)
- Wooly Warm Socks
- The super excellent merino wool shirts that would fit tall and have thumb holes. Best second layer riding shirt ever. I let a shivering person on a brevet borrow mine and they enjoyed it so much that they refused to return it :(
- Chambray shirts
- Seersucker shirts
- 70's African Funk Instructional or Fun Videos (compliments of Jay Ritchey)
