Just a quick recap from our fantastic Riv weekend in Asheville.

It was a blast. Almost 25 riders from Indiana to FL, including 10 local folks. Everyone was great and the bikes were, as you can imagine, almost all rivs, but we did let in a bridgestone :).  A Hunq, 5 Appaloosas, a couple of Atlanti, 3 or 4 gorgeous customs, the famous Betty Foy ridden 72.000 miles by Pam (yes 72K!), a purple Rosco Platypus, a pumpkin platypus, a couple of Sams, and two Salukis, a Gus, and probably some more that I'm forgetting.

Some highlights:
The River Arts District greenway ride followed by beer and dinner at New Belgium Brewing, where our bikes took up and spilled over the entire bike rack system.

Our Bent Creek Gravel rides - three groups had a splendid day with not too hot temps, no rain, and perfect fire roads.

Two friendly bears who realized they were in the poster and better make an appearance.

Our bike parts garage sale, where everyone realized that we were all trying to get rid of lots of tires, stems, handlebars, bags, etc. that everyone else there already had. We all have a bike parts hoarding problem.

Beer and dinner at The Wedge brewery Saturday night.

The fabulous poster from Brian.

All of the fun people that came together with amazing bikes, great personalities, and brought all of their fun to the weekend.

Enthusiastic agreement that we should do it all again, maybe in during a fall or spring timeframe.

And thanks to a very gracious offer from Leah, she put our pics and videos together into one of her great videos - THANK YOU, LEAH!  A link to her video is below if you'd like to watch it.

This is fantastic! Sorry I missed it. I was in Asheville back in 2016 and loved the area. Visiting the Biltmore Estate was cool and there are some great craft breweries as you all discovered. I need to try to make the next one. Would love to get together will fellow Riv riders.

I'm a recent member of the Rivendell owners community (officially), although I've been closely following Grant, his brand, and his philosophies for over 20 years now. In some ways, I feel like I've always sort-of been a Rivendell owner. However, after finally getting an opportunity to travel to Asheville to meet with so many other members of the Rivendell community, and better yet, getting to ride with them, was an experience that rivals many of the other memorable bike adventures I've had in those past 20 years! I'm still a bit reeling from how fun this past weekend was. Gary, you and all your local crew went above and beyond to make this event a success, and the hospitality and energy you brought to the weekend was amazing. Joel, thank you for heading up the routes for us; very thoughtful in the ride planning, and of course those fire roads were sublime. I'm very glad my Gus is currently the only Riv I own, because it made the bike selection easy - and it turned out to be a perfect match for the environment.

I expect you'll see the Kentucky crew again very soon, as we are already scheming on a return trip. Hoping also for another Riv meetup there... the Asheville location and wealth of opportunities seems hard to beat!

sincerely,
Brian from Lexington

Well-done poster, well-put-together video, many interesting bikes. Thanks for sharing.

Whose is the orange custom at 0:52 and passim with untaped bar, no-extension (Discord?) stem, lovely high-flange front wheel, and 50 mm tires? 650B or 559? What tires?

Can we get the usual statutory driveside profile photo?

This was a fantastic event.  Perfectly organized without being regimented, very well chosen rides, great weather, and best of all, a really lovely group of people.  I really enjoyed meeting all who I met and my only regret is that I didn't get to spend time with everyone who was there.  I'm not a bike event guy - the last one I went to was in the previous millennium - but I am now eagerly awaiting an opportunity to attend another Riv gathering.

Thank you to all who attended for bringing such a fabulous spirit, and a massive thanks to all who were involved in the planning and organizing.

Patrick - that would be Laing’s orange Riv custom.

Wow… it looks like such a brilliant gathering—fun people, beautiful scenery, great vibes, and lovely bikes. Thanks for sharing. I hope to make it to the next ride in NC, my home state.

Much appreciation to Leah for the video and ongoing inspiration for the Unofficial Rivendell rides!

Rode my old race bike with 650b RH slicks & a VO porteur handlebar to New Belgium. The next day I rode my trusty Ritchey at Bent Creek. Somewhere along the way a rider on a well loved Riv offered me a sip of Kool Aid. I drank it down - it was good. Less than a week later I bought a Platypus. Hmmm....go figure.
YES - let's do it again! Awesome bikes. Lovely people. Tasty Kool Aid.

Hey I hope to make the next one - the fall maybe?? I have nice blue Rambouillet frame that I bought in 2005 and built up with parts I had (some vintage 70s-80s) plus other new bits. Just overhauled and still special. I just discovered this group! I live in Tryon and have never wanted to ride in a spandex group.

I hope to hear about a gathering before it happens!

Are there plans for an Asheville (or area) meetup this year?

Dick, I've heard some loose talk about maybe September, but to my knowledge nothing has jelled yet. I'll try to touch base with the local planning group and see what their thoughts are. If it's a go we'll get a notice up on the Owners Bunch group site.

I'd love to join this year! I am not officially a Riv owner but a Bridgestone owner :)
