I was curious whether any of you who enjoy pedaling free have tried the Ergon PC-2 Pedals  http://www.ergon-bike.com/us/en/interbike2010-pc2

They are certainly not the prettiest pedals but they look interesting for a city bike.

Thanks for pointing these out. I haven't seen them & didn't even know
Ergon made pedals. If they are as well thought out as their
handgrips, they have some merit. It would be interesting to see how
the safety tread stuff works when wet. It does well on stair treads,
etc. I love my Grip Kings but those grippers are pretty aggressive on
bare skin. I've also got some Wellgo cheapies ($16) on a couple of
bikes. They're OK but the rubber surface isn't good when wet.

These look okay but I prefer BMX style pedals the ones with a large
platform, pins, sealed bearings, concave profile and CNC machined
platform about 100mm square. I've never been gouged by pedal pins like
many seem to be scared off and this type of pedal is usually made
quite sturdy for between $50 - $100. The Ergons look decent but I
couldn't find the dimensions.....maybe I need to look more carefully.
Its good to see more non-attached pedal designs coming on the market.

Those pedals look interesting. I may have to try them out. What I was
really excited to see on the Ergon website was the TPI Pedal Cleat
Tool. http://www.ergon-bike.com/us/en/product/tp1

I guess I rarely worry about calf scraping since I usually wear heavy
denim long pants and don't usually ride off road. Sunshine is rare up
here too especially this year and I have only worn shorts three
times. : ( ........but yea that looks like it hurt a little. Seriously
does this happen often.....just curious?

I used BMX pedals with pins before the Grip Kings came out, and that
was one of the downsides. The more aggressive the gription the better
it works when wet, but the more damage it can do in casual contact.
Most of my scrapes were encountered handling the bike such as carrying
up stairs or wheeling it thru a building, not while riding. I take it
pretty easy off road. My climate favors shorts most of the time so
casual contact is inevitable.

That 6 degree wedge is very aggressive for an alignment adjustment. The Specialized body geometry shoes have only a 2 degree wedge.  Looks to me like you will feel like you are slipping off the pedal.  The 2 degree angle  in the Specialized shoes was a huge benefit for me as my inner Knee pain went completely away.

anyway this is not an issue for me as I will be buried with my spd shoes on.

I think these Ergons are a great idea. Grip tape is the best pedal
surface, hands down. I'd cover the whole pedal with grippiness, but it
looks like they've covered the main load area.

I've been riding my grip-taped MKS pedals, and really like them.
They're just as narrow as ever, but now they feel very secure, even in
the rain. The first string of hot days made the tape slip around on
the metal, but not enough to impair function (my skateboard-deck
pedals haven't done this). http://www.biketinker.com/2011/projects/griptape-on-platform-pedals/

I got a chuckle from Kent's description of the material of
construction, and rather like the idea of Sasquatch size pedals. They
definitely sound worth a look.

"Guitar Ted" also reviewed them a few days ago.  http://g-tedproductions.blogspot.com/2011/07/ergon-pc2-l-pedals-first-impressions.html
