It's a bit vague on the Riv site and on the Soma site, so I'm hoping to hear from those who've actually tried the combo I'd like (it's what's holding me up on ordering a frame). Fingers crossed, it can squeeze some Jack Browns and 45mm aluminum fenders. Does it work? Worst case, I'd be happy with Ruffy Tuffys and 37mm aluminum fenders, so if that's the combo you run and it's good-but-tight I'd love to hear from you too.
I would call Riv and ask them, but this is a case where I'd be ordering wholesale from Merry Sales through my shop and I don't want to take up their time on a non-direct sale. For the record, I bought my Sam fair and square direct from Riv so I am a bonified customer, just not for this theoretical bike.

I put TrimLines (37.5mm actual width) on my girlfriends San Marcos, I haven't put fenders on but it looks like their is just enough room on the front. The back has about 4mm more vertical clearance so plenty of room there.

Thanks Dave! That's the 700c version of the bike I assume? I wasn't clear in my initial question I just realized.

The 650b will fit at least a 38mm. The 700c should fit Jack Browns at least and maybe some 35mm. I personally feel like the 700c should have more clearance than they do, but but it's not my call to make.

Scot, sorry the Trim Line is a 650b tire, my girlfriend rides a 51cm.
I forgot the 700c version has tighter clearances per the specs.
I agree with Evan that it's sad the 700c Soma San Marcos isn't
designed to fit the 38mm Soma C-line. I also find it sad the front and
rear clearances aren't very well balanced on my girlfriends San
Marcos. The rear is at the bottom of the brake slots, while the front
is slightly above the midpoint of the slots. Maybe SOMA could address
those issues in future production runs.

It's not really our call.

We have to get permission from RBW before we can change anything on the San Marcos. I've made a few requests but so far the answer has been no.

Thanks for giving us the news-from-the-source, Evan. And thanks for being the guy trying to get us some cool new features on the bike.

Just an update, were currently working out the geometry for a 54cm and 57cm 650b Marcos variant. Hopefully they'll be in stock later this year. Some chrome replacement forks on order too, if you have one of the old frames sans mini rack braze ons.
