After much too long, and too many delays, I finally took the time to update the Rivendell "models & variations" poster I started a while back. Many of you sent me new photos to replace the ones that were originally used, and the results were amazing! I could have made the poster twice as large given the vast number of variations that exist, but I think this captures most of 'em. Of course feedback is welcome, and I can always update the update periodically. Once the ? is named officially - with paint and graphics an all -  I'll add a new photo of that, but I think it's kind of cool to keep it in it's ever-evolving state; never quite done, never quite perfect. I included an obvious flaw and a few subtle "errors" that some of you might have fun with.

Less obvious to some is the order, so here it is - reading left to right from the top left corner:

Custom - Custom - Road Standard - All Rounder
Mountain - Long Low - Heron Road - Heron Touring
Atlantis - Rambouillet - Romulus - Canti-Rom
Redwood - Quickbeam - Saluki - Legolas
Glorius - Willbury - Bleriot - A Homer Hilsen
AHH Undertuber - Bombadil Undertuber - Samuel Hillborne - SH Undertuber
Betty Foy - Yves Gomez - Roadeo - Hunqapillar
Hunqapillar Diagatuber - Bombadil Diagatuber - Quickbeam - ?

Previously, there was a little discussion about Flickr, and copyrights, and legalese & such. If more of that comes along this time I'll simply pull the plug and take it down. I really don't expect that again, but you never know. Thanks to everyone in the Bunch for making it a fun place to hang out!

This is really nice. What's the story behind the Heron's? How are they related to  Rivendell  ?

I'm not the expert Ryan, but my understanding is that Heron was a brand that GP and others (TD, RS) were a part of in the early days as a way to extend the reach of well-designed, well-built bikes to those who did not need a "custom", and offer them an affordable alternative to a Rivendell. Others will likely weigh in on this, but when I talked to Grant about including them in this poster, he said in effect: "Heron? Yes. SOMA? No." So that begins to answer two questions, and I've reached my limit of knowledge on the topic so I'll end it there. Corrections and clarifications welcome!

Dang, that second to last entry should be Simpleone, not Quickbeam.

The only non-drive side photo happens to be of GP's own Hilsen... Intentional?

Leslie, no prize for that, but yes; intentional. Call it swimming up stream, or spitting in the wind, or going against the flow. Maybe it represents the RIvendell philosophy somehow. I was not thinking that when I took the shot during my last visit to HQ, but when the idea came up and I was looking at all the AHH photos out there, it was a must-add. I would have taken the same shot had he parked it the other way around that day, but the idea was to capture models in their natural habitat as much as possible = no studio shots. I'm not a great photographer myself, but - like most of you - I enjoy finding settings that not only show off the bike, but reflect the RIvendell spirit. Every one of these does that, as do so many on the various photo-sites out there on the web. Trust me, it was tough choosing only one of each!

Some have asked me to upload this to Snapfish so they can order a print. I've never done that, but I'll give it a try. Here's the link to the file on Snapfish:

Let me know if that works, OK?

I suspected such, and I like it.   I know the drive-side is the 'pose' side, which most of them are, but it makes perfect sense to have GP's own be even more noticeable (I suppose we'd all recognize it anyway, but having it be the only one turned the other way, is a nice emphasis on his).

Thanks, that is a very classy and fun thing for you to undertake for
everyone's benefit. Can't wait to get a poster-size print for my
shop.

It is also possible to copy the original size in Flickr to an SD card and tote said card to Target to get a poster sized print.  Did that over lunch.  It's a stunner.  Cost was  about $19.  Might vary depending on where you have it done.

Thank you Marty for the great work.  Still wish the single TT Hillborne was the original green, but can't have everything.  But Grant's AHH makes up for it.

Glad you like it Eric, and good to know it prints out OK. I have not had a chance to do that myself, but I'll take it in on a thumb drive somewhere this weekend. What size did you end up with? Sorry 'bout the missing green SH, but there's always the next time!

Marty,

18x24.  Which is what you recommended, isn't it?

As for the green Hillborne, I'm (mostly) pulling your chain.  Amazing how many green bikes have been available from Rivendell.

Very cool indeed! But of course, someone has to quibble, so it may as
well be me. The Atlantis doesn't have a rear rack! How can this be?
Mine feels naked without one; of course, its never had fenders, so I
guess that evens things out.

Nice work. I know the group will enjoy this; thanks for the time &
effort.
