I believe I saw someone running Panaracer Gravel King tires on a Riv posted here recently, but I don't recall who or what bike.
As this is a relatively new tire, I'm wondering if anyone has used this tire and can give some initial impressions.
Also, if you can measure actual width, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Bonus points if you have experience with Compass Switchback Hills and/or WTB Horizons and can compare.
Thanks!
David

David:

I’m running Gravel Kings on my converted Rim Road. Mounted on Velocity Synergy rims, they measure 38.5mm wide.

I like these tires. To me, they feel the same as Pari-Motos. I didn’t have many flats with the Pari-Motos, and haven’t had any with these (I ride on streets and bike paths exclusively).

What size are you using? I'm looking at the new 48mm version, but might be able to extrapolate if they run small/large/true/%c.

David-

To that point, I had a set of 700x40 Gravel King SKs on 25 mm rims, and they measured almost 41.5 mm.
The knobs on the shoulder of the tread may be what added the extra bit to the measurement.
But they definitely don't seem to run small.

I have the 650x48 with smooth tread on my mtbubbe. They measure 46mm with the calipers mounted to a velocity atlas rim. Pictures show clearance on a bike with room for 2.2 in., I think.

Ride is fine. I've pretty much decided that these $25 to $40 per tire Panaracers are the sweet spot for price, ride, and flat resistance (lots of sharp debris around here). They don't feel as good as a more supple tire, but they don't feel dead like a cheap, heavy nail proof tire either.

No flats from glass. Feel good to ride. Don't cost too much.

measured my Horizons for you.  I have them tubeless on Pacenti TL28s.  Measure about 49mm.
