RBWOBers,

Have any of you Roadeo owners managed to install fenders AND 32mm tires? If so, what's the trick (aside from a tolerance for scant clearance)? Centerpull brakes? Skinny rims? Tires that aren't actually 32mm?

Post your advice, please!

Not a Roadeo, but a 2nd iteration Rambouillet: 35-labled/31-22-actual Kojaks under SKS fenders, with sufficient air. Heck, I've done similar with one of my road customs, which I am pretty sure has less clearance than the Ram did.

I think that the Roadeo has similar clearances, no?

Oh: 57 mm max calipers, single pivots. Open Pros on the Ram, 19 and 21s (outside) on the Road, but tire measurements are actual.

(That should read "31-32" of course.)

Like Patrick, not a Roadeo, but a first iteration Rambouillet: Stampede Pass 32s (31 actual) under Honjo H-50 fenders.

57mm max reach Shimano BR-600R calipers replaced with center mount Paul Racers to overcome closing of clearance around fenders when braking. Initial Honjo H-27 fenders (necessary to fit the calipers) were realistically too small for 32mm labled tires. Correct for 32mm tire H-50s were able to fit the tight rear end and be installed appropriately under the Paul calipers.

The Shimano caliper's asymmetric design caused the back arm (pivoted on center) to contact the rear fender under use, the front arm with its off center (outboard) pivot was fine. The Paul Racer dual pivot is symmetric and the arms' clearance of the fender/tire increases under use. A big fix in a small box.

There's always the option of splitting the fender at the brake bridge, but you need to get creative with your hardware/riveter, and there's the ugliness...

I experimented with 35mm ELs under 45mm SKS on my RAM. Enough room to make me comfortable, but I prefer 32s and for this setup lots of room.

My Roadeo is a very early one. I’m running Stampede Pass ELs on HED 23mm rims (outside width). With that setup the tires are 32.2mm by my reckoning.

I really like the clearances to the brake calipers with this setup without fenders. The smallest gap at any point to the brake caliper is about 6mm and that spot is in back. I don’t consider that gap to be sufficient to fit a fender through. If I ever run fenders on my Roadeo it will be with narrower tires.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I should really just get a second Roadeo and put fenders, 28s, and lights on it.

Yep, now that’s a nice plan. Expensive, but nice.

Should you need an enabling statement to help you with that plan.......

I have an AHH that I have had since 2013. It was my main bike. Fenders, lights etc. Always ready to go and able to handle most any situation. Runs 35's or 38's.

I just got a Legolas. Keeping it light weight & minimal. The riding is an absolute joy! Runs 32s.

I can virtually guarantee you will not be disappointed, nor will you feel that you are not getting your money's worth. I vote that you should do it!

I have about 1 cm clearance on my Roadeo on both the front and back calipers with Tektro 539s with GB Cypres tires, which run about 30 mm (no fender mounted).
