Hope tomorrow to take friend to look at '12 Novara Fusion at REI. It's
a high-rise design, but with her neck injury she may want an even more
extreme sit-up-and-beg position. Please take a look at the attached
image and tell me, in y'all's opinions, whether you think this would
call for the Bosco or whether the Albatross would do.

I'd like to see photos of any listmember's bike with high rise
Albatrosses or Boscos.

Thanks!

I recently did a drivetrain makeover on my wife's Betty Foy which also included changing the handlebars from Albatross to Bosco. She appreciates the more upright position of the Bosco as she has a bad back. I have attached a before and after picture.

David -- thanks very much, the before and after really do show a
difference -- very useful.

Will report on this build and inflict photos. I am presently not in
buying mode or building mode for myself, so this is a free and
vicarious exercise in spending someone else's money to build what I
like. (Yes, yes, I have put her needs first.)

That Novara is a cool looking bike.    Based on David's photos I'd lean toward recommending the boscos to your friend if she's dealing with a neck injury right now.

Her Betty started life with a 3x9 derailler drive train like many Rivendell bikes. Laura really did not need, nor was she really comfortable using, all that gearing for the around town riding she does. I built a new wheel with a Shimano 8 speed hub and put on a single speed crank. She is much happier with this setup for the riding she does.

Keep it simple . . . get one of each .

Pictures can be like pie in the sky . .  great to look at but you wanna taste it :)

The best way to know the feeling difference is to try them !

Bon appetit :)

Thanks, Thomas -- I can see that the stem is considerably raised with
the Albatrosses and that the Bosco's come back closer to the saddle.
Have seared the two images on my memory for tomorrow's investigation.

Garth: No can do, alas, since it's her dime and I don't even want to
think of explaining why she ought to spend $130+ for two bars (inc
shipping). Me, I like drops and whatever else I try, always come back
to drops.

Boscos sure are visually a good fit on Mixte/Step Through bikes:

I don't remember if you said how tall your friend is, but consider width when buying the bars. My wife and daughter are about 5'4", and they prefer the Dove to the Albatross.
